True Freedom: Spinoza's Practical Philosophy is a straightforward presentation of Spinoza's philosophy focused on the issue of how one might live. The book is unique among recent Spinoza scholarship in the way in which it centers on the ethical component in Spinoza's work. In order to bring Spinoza's ethics to the fore, Brent Adkins begin with what he considers to be Spinoza's fundamental ethical insight: namely, that emotions are controlled by understanding them. Adkins reveals how the process of unfolding Spinoza's philosophy is always anchored in the very practical issue of living well. The significance of True Freedom lies in its understanding of Spinoza's ethics as an 'experimentalism' and its accessibility to a very wide audience. Despite the fact that Spinoza died over 300 years ago, his writings remain remarkably prescient for a wide variety of disciplines, from religion to neuroscience. The source of this prescience, however, comes from Spinoza's recasting ethical theory in terms of how we might live rather than in terms of how we should live. Freedom in every aspect of life from the personal to the political to the religious is dependent on a particular way of engaging with the world. This engagement takes the form of an experiment to see if what we engage with results in an increase or a decrease in our capacity to affect and be affected by the world. True freedom, for Spinoza, lies in increasing our capacities.

True Freedom On Protecting Human Dignity and Religious Liberty Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, Archbishop of New York Are American liberties on the endangered species list? In this eBook original, the Archbishop of New York and president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issues a plea for all citizens to reject the cynicism of the day and foster a culture in which religious freedom and all human life are infinitely valued. Religion and the dignity of human life are under attack by a variety of threats in the modern world including abortion, infanticide, eugenics, misuse of artificial reproductive technologies, an unjust distribution of economic resources, war, the arms trade, drugs, and human trafficking. What can be done to stop this? Cardinal Timothy Dolan explains the need for all Americans to embrace a new culture rooted in what Blessed John Paul II called the Gospel of Life where the sacredness of all human life, and the freedoms that are their birthright, are upheld, respected and protected by law.

Wendy Cohen, born to atheists shortly after WWII, knew, from her earliest memories, that her parents' atheism was wrong. Because of ongoing, supernatural, encounters with Jesus, she had a rich, personal relationship with God. Her heart yearned to bring her parents, whose atheism was born from the Holocaust, out of their darkness into the light of God's Love. When she was six years old, she promised the LORD she would do that. Within months, her world was demolished. Left with a babysitter who practiced Satanic Ritual Abuse, she spent two weeks, within a coven, watching people be tortured to death. Somehow, at that early age, she realized that the same spiritual force that created Naziism had created this death cult. She promised God to do her part to end this horrible nightmare. After a lifetime spent in the arts, including theatre, music, writing, and teaching the above, it has finally come time for her to testify of her recovery, and to offer God's hand of help, as she experienced it, to others. She hopes this book will open doors for much healing. Wendy pastors through an Assembly of God church, and works internationally, encouraging Christian visual and performing artists to enhance the intimacy of their personal relationships with the LORD. For information on her work as a musician, on her international arts center, and on her other work with artists, please contact her at [email protected].
