H. M. STASKA I was born in Adelaide two years after my parents & brothers had arrived as migrants from Czechoslovakia. I was first Australian in our family. I remember as a child, my father tucking me into bed at night telling me this and many other wonderful stories which I have always loved but when I became a mother I couldn't find these stories in English to tell my children and they couldn't speak Czech. As a young mum I also didn't have the time to translate and publish stories. Now finally as a grandmother I have the motivation as well as the time to translate and adapt these stories into English. This book, the first, is dedicated to Jessica who because of her love of stories was the initial inspiration for me to begin translating and it gives me extreme joy to relate the stories to her, watching how deeply she listens and absorbs every word. I hope that this will give many other children such wondrous joy and fire their imaginations.
