The intelligent stranger who enters it for the first time at once perceives that he is in a city which has a history; a city, the records of which must needs be of interest. The object the author has had in view is to assist such stranger, as well as his fellow-citizens, by placing before them a manual in which they may find much information not hitherto available in any other work.
