Krishna, the only son of wealthy parents Gautam Seth and Shantai, secretly marries his classmate Elizabeth, the sole heir of the British royal family. The estate is worth around £250 million, and the heir has a right to the fort and state-of-the-art cars. When the trustees learn of an heir, they come to India in search of it. The novel explores the relationship between Krishna, Mohini, and their family, as well as the estate’s fate and the narrator’s marriage. The story ends with a happy or sad ending, highlighting the complex relationships and the complexities of family dynamics.
