Book Synopsis All This Time by : Sage Donnell

Is fifty-one too late to accept you’re a lesbian? When the sexuality she swept under the rug as a teenager refuses to stay hidden, Erin finally accepts who she really is, divorces her husband, and sets about starting a new chapter in her life. Perhaps a reunion weekend with her three best high school friends will help her sort out what she really wants now. She’s especially looking forward to seeing Jodi, her not-so-secret crush whose kiss confirmed her teenage sexuality and sent her reeling. It can’t hurt to see if the spark is still there. Jodi has been living out and proud since she moved away to go to college over thirty years ago. She’s happy with her life and career, but she’s a serial monogamist who always finds a reason to move on. She has no idea this reunion weekend has the potential to open old wounds. Erin hopes it’s never too late to live as her true self. Can she convince Jodi to forgive her complicated past and accept her complex present after all this time?

Book Synopsis This Time, This Place by : Jack Valenti

With the nation at war in the 1940s, twenty-two-year-old Jack Valenti flew fifty-one combat missions as the pilot of a B-25 attack bomber with the 12th Air Force based in Italy. In the 1960s, with the nation reeling from the assassination of a beloved president and becoming embroiled in a far different kind of war in Vietnam, he was in that fateful Dallas motorcade in 1963, flew back to Washington with the new president, and for three years worked in the inner circle of the White House as special assistant to President Lyndon Johnson. Then, for the next thirty-eight years, with American society and popular culture undergoing a revolutionary transformation, Valenti was the public face of Hollywood in his capacity as head of the Motion Picture Association of America.Been there, done that, indeed. Texas-born and Harvard-educated, Valenti has led several lives, any one of which could have provided ample material for an unforgettable memoir. As it is, This Time, This Place is the gripping story of a man who saw the terrible face of war while fighting with skill and bravery for his country; who was in the room, listening, participating, and remembering, as political decisions were made that would benefit or devastate countless lives in this country and on the other side of the world; and who championed the interest of the vast and globally influential movie industry with tenacity and vision. The list of boldface names whom Valenti knew and with whom he worked is as varied as it is astonishing in number. Aside from LBJ, there were Jack and Bobby Kennedy, Kirk Douglas, Frank Sinatra, Robert McNamara, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Julia Roberts, Cary Grant, Lew Wasserman, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jack Nicholson, Michael Douglas, Warren Beatty, and Bill Clinton, to begin a very long list. The life of a man who earned both the Distinguished Flying Cross and his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is inherently intriguing, but Valenti’s warm, sometimes rueful, always engaging account gives this memoir a depth of humanity and a taste of life’s unpredictability that will linger long after you turn the final page. From growing up poor but largely oblivious to that fact in a hardscrabble neighborhood of Greek and Italian immigrants in Houston to rising to the highest summits both of national government and Hollywood, This Time, This Place is a candid and clear-eyed reflection of the joys and sorrows, ambitions and disappointments, of a life fully recognizable in its extraordinary variety. It is also a sweeping and important historical record, written by a brilliantly successful man who helped to shape politics and entertainment in the second half of the twentieth century, and who always found himself in the center of the current storm.

Book Synopsis This Time Next Year by : Evelyn Hood

When the modest young widow Lessie Hamilton realises she is sharing her tenement landing with a prostitute, she is both shocked and upset. So when the buxom Anna McCauley begs Lessie to help disguise the fact that one of her clients has passed away in her bed, Lessie is more than reluctant to get involved. But, soft-hearted as ever, she does and, because she's desperate to buy medicine for her sick toddler, accepts the twenty shillings Anna forces on her, promising herself one day she'll pay her back. But keeping that promise is not easy and from the day she accepts the money the fates of Lessie and her beloved younger brother Davie are inextricably intertwined with Anna's. And also with the family of her deceased client who, it turns out, is none other than Frank Warren, the prosperous sugar refinery owner whose nephew Andrew is one of the most attractive and powerful men on Clydeside.

Book Synopsis Maybe This Time by : Mary Verdick

She'd been eaten up with guilt all her life, afraid to face the truth, and now, in some strange way, by recalling what had happened in her family she felt almost liberated. It was as if a great weight had suddenly been lifted off her shoulders and now she was free-except for the door that had closed against her heart where Max was concerned. Bile rose in her throat thinking of him and once started she couldn't stop crying as she suffered through the slow, agonizing death of her soul.

Book Synopsis This Time For Sure by : Hank Phillippi Ryan

What would you do if you had a second chance? A do-over? How far would you go to get back at the one who got away, the one who did you wrong, the one who tricked you, manipulated you, ignored you? The one who dumped you, cheated on you—or harmed a friend? What would you risk to have that one little chance to get back at them? Twenty-two brilliant skilled authors now offer their journeys into revenge. Retribution. Redemption. Revealed how they would even the score, turn the tables, make things right. One used a map. One a tape recorder. A decoy. A disguise. A lie. One even used a banana. And, fine. Because we are crime fiction authors, turns out there’s a lot of murder involved. And because these are short stories—hang on for the ride. Twists, turns, surprises—and even some heartbreak. Because there’s nothing as delicious and tempting as a second chance. Oh, we promise ourselves. This time for sure. With stories by Sharon Bader, Damyanti Biswas, Clark Boyd, Lucy Burdette, Karen Dionne, Elisabeth Elo, Elizabeth Elwood, Alexia Gordon, Heather Graham, G. Book Synopsis The Joke’S on You, This Time by : Charles Rice

Like my first literary attempt, The Jokes on Me, this book is primarily a collection of editorials and letters to the editor of the local newspaper, along with running commentary and some attempted justification for the foolishness. The first book would not exist if it hadnt been for the insistence of several people that all this should be in a book. Most of the letters to the editor in this first section were written under the guise of the Greater Sycamore Valley Chamber of Commerce, an entity that existed only in the minds of its readers. Some of the letters were just personal reflections on the situation of the day. Some of the letters may seem terribly redundant, but I never was one to pass up an opportunity to tell the same joke twice. The second and most important part of this book contains Sunday Guest Editorials, which I have written for publication in the local newspaper. These editorials deal with issues of a religious nature and were written in the hope that they would stimulate readers to contemplate their own relationship with the One who spoke and all things came into existence.

Book Synopsis The Fire This Time by : Jesmyn Ward

THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER Edited by two-time National Book Award winner and Women's Prize shortlisted-author Jesmyn Ward, a timely and groundbreaking collection of essays and poems about race in America In this bestselling collection of essays and poems, Jesmyn Ward gathers a new generation of writers and thinkers to speak on race. From Claudia Rankine to Rachel Kaadzi Ghansah, Kiese Laymon to Carol Anderson, these voices shine a light on the darkest corners of American history, wrestle with the struggles the country faces today and imagine a better future. Envisioned as a response to The Fire Next Time, James Baldwin's groundbreaking 1963 essay collection, The Fire This Time considers the black experience in modern America. Significant progress has been made in the fifty years since Baldwin's essays were published, but America is a long distance away from a post-racial society – a truth that must be confronted if the country is to continue to work towards change. Baldwin's 'fire next time' is now upon us, and it needs to be talked about. Sage, urgent and impassioned, this is an essential collection edited by one of America's greatest writers.
