The Montes de Malaga protects against the Northern weather systems and it is beautifully situated on the Mediterranean Sea. It has close to 600,000 inhabitants, including many pensioners from Northern Europe.

Christkindelsmärik is the Alsatian dialect name of the Christmas market in Strasbourg, held annually on the square in front of the Strasbourg Cathedral since 1570. Considered one of the most famous Christmas markets throughout Europe. The city benefits of a 16 million Euros profit from this 38 day long tradition. It is famous for its fragrance of mulled wine (French: vin chaud; German: Glühwein). The main Montreux Christmas Market - Marché de Noël in French - is called the Lakeside Christmas Market. In this enchanting setting, extending for more than one kilometer along Lake Geneva's shoreline, you will find 170 stalls with crafts, tastings of local specialties, mulled wine and thousands of gift ideas. The size is as in a big German or Austrian city! Compared to other Christmas markets Montreux has more personal luxury items than traditional warm winter clothes. There does not appear to be an official Nativity as we have seen in the Catholic lands like Luxembourg, Austria and Bavaria. But also, the Nativity is not banned as in Strasbourg.

The Christmas Market in Trier in its present form has been held for 40 years and is a romantic experience in a Roman and Medieval setting. It is often visited together with the Christmas Market in the picturesque village of Bernkastel-Kues.
