"Christmas and New Year's on the Minnesota Frontier" relives pioneer holiday merrying throughout the state beginning in 1827 at Fort Snelling, where, a few years later, Indian Agent Lawrence Taliaferro complained about having to "undergo various salutations from many & old as well as young [Native American] women-a [disagreeable] custom derived from our Canadian population".
