Book Synopsis Being the Change by : Peter Kalmus

Life on 1/10th the fossil fuels turns out to be awesome. We all want to be happy. Yet as we consume ever more in a frantic bid for happiness, global warming worsens. Alarmed by drastic changes now occurring in the Earth's climate systems, the author, a climate scientist and suburban father of two, embarked on a journey to change his life and the world. He began by bicycling, growing food, meditating, and making other simple, fulfilling changes. Ultimately, he slashed his climate impact to under a tenth of the US average and became happier in the process. Being the Change explores the connections between our individual daily actions and our collective predicament. It merges science, spirituality, and practical action to develop a satisfying and appropriate response to global warming. Part one exposes our interconnected predicament: overpopulation, global warming, industrial agriculture, growth-addicted economics, a sold-out political system, and a mindset of separation from nature. It also includes a readable but authoritative overview of climate science. Part two offers a response at once obvious and unprecedented: mindfully opting out of this broken system and aligning our daily lives with the biosphere. The core message is deeply optimistic: living without fossil fuels is not only possible, it can be better. Book Synopsis Be the Change(maker) by : Kara Exner

Are you a changemaker? Many people are drawn to make positive change in the world, but feel daunted by the legends of iconic activists like Mother Teresa or Nelson Mandela. By considering how everyday people make a difference in their own communities or workplaces, we can find an approach that is relatable and attainable. Based on research and interviews with nearly fifty people devoted to making a positive difference, this book explores the mindsets that everyday changemakers have in common: how they perceive themselves, how they relate to others, and how they are oriented to action. Straight forward, accessible, and digestible, this book provides readers with helpful guidance and tips, inspiring words from the changemakers themselves, and reflective questions designed to spur insights and action. This book offers bright spots, helps new changemakers start small or go big, and encourages stalled changemakers to get their spark back and keep going. Most importantly, it reminds us that everyday people can make an extraordinary difference in the world.

Book Synopsis Be the Change by : Duanita G. Eleniak, PhD

What happens when a forty-five-year old therapist goes to acting school with a group of young actors? While testing her theory that the arts are the pathway to higher consciousness and a spiritual worldview, the author encounters unexpected drama. Art and life blur as she faces daily conflicts, a brush with death, life-altering neurological changes, and a classmate’s suicide. Through acting, she gains powerful insights about artistic endeavor and heightened consciousness; above all, she realizes that shifting the worldview requires following Gandhi’s wisdom: “Be the change that you want to see in the world.” Throughout her adventures, Dr. Duanita shows the reader how to co-create reality, enhance creativity, and deepen their spiritual connection. So powerful is the intention of her true story that few who read it will fail to experience a transformation of mind, heart, and spirit.

Book Synopsis Be the Change by : Arun Gandhi

In this breathtaking companion to the award-winning Grandfather Gandhi, Arun Gandhi, with Bethany Hegedus, tells a poignant, personal story of the damage of wastefulness, gorgeuously illustrated by Evan Turk. At Grandfather Gandhi’s service village, each day is filled, from sunrise to sunset, with work that is done for the good of all. The villagers vow to live simply and non-violently. Arun Gandhi tries very hard to follow these vows, but he struggles with one of the most important rules: not to waste. How can throwing away a worn-down pencil hurt anyone? How can wastefulness lead to violence? With the help of his grandfather, Arun learns how every wasteful act, no matter how small, affects others. And in time he comes to understand the truth of his grandfather’s words: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
