In the popular imagination, the Holy Grail – part of the legendary romance of King Arthur – belongs to the realm of myth. The Knights Templar also have a legendary, enigmatic aspect. Despite the immense volume of historical research available, plausible explanations to the ‘mystery’ at the core of their practices have yet to be revealed. By studying these two themes side-by-side and showing their inner relationship, Veltman reveals valuable new perspectives. On the one hand he demonstrates that the ‘poetic imagination’ of the Grail mystery has its origin in concrete historical events; and on the other hand, that the true history of the Knights Templar is, essentially, esoteric. Combining historical research with insights gained from the work of Rudolf Steiner, Veltman presents an impressive survey of the subject, beginning with the pre-Christian Mysteries and ending with a vision of Michaelic Christianity. He analyses the significance of the holy city of Jerusalem, the Temple of Solomon, the Temple Legend, the Grail Temple, the Rosicrucians, the Templars’ gold, and the fraught question of evil. In addition, he sketches the continuation or metamorphosis of the Grail and Temple impulses into the future, including the critical ‘balancing’ role of Europe between East and West. To become effective, this important European task – which, he says, is continually being thwarted – must be properly understood within the realm of human consciousness.

New Paths on the Quest for the Grail Explore the transformative power of the Grail and discover extraordinary revelations from nearly forgotten Grail texts. Temple of the Grail offers the first English translations of the thirteenth-century Sone de Nansay and the Later Titurel by Albrecht, together with insights from the Letter of Prester John. These texts, along with brilliant commentary by foremost Grail scholars John Matthews and Gareth Knight, provide tantalizing clues into the modern understanding of the Grail quest, shedding important new light on the mysteries of the Grail temple itself, its relationship to the sacred understanding of architecture and symbolism, and its rediscovery in the heart of the Middle East. In addition, Temple of the Grail explores the lineage of the mystical Swan Knights, said to be guardians of the Grail descended from Sone himself. Filled with fascinating perspectives on one of the greatest mysteries of all time, this book is a must-have for Grail aficionados. The interpretations of the Grail temple and the effects of standing before the Grail live at the heart of the mystery. The profound ideas explored in Temple of the Grail open new pathways of engagement with this essential part of our continued spiritual evolution.

In just about every book you pick up to read, information is set forth that has the raw potential to affect you, the reading inquirer, in a variety of ways. This particular book is perhaps especially like that, since it covers a wide range of topics, and spans a plethora of perception. And it will frequently swerve far from the mainstream of conventional thinking. As to the general thought presented, some of it contained herein will no doubt make you want to yawn. You will already personally know what I am suggesting about something, and maybe even considerably more on it than I do. You will wonder why I bothered to express an idea that was so obvious, so basic, so simple. Perhaps the very next thought will cause you to bristle; you won't appreciate or respect the point. You will not agree. You will see it differently. You will object to the very insinuation that I would have thought to write it down. At some point, you might start to wonder about me, the imperfect amateur writer-thinker-theorist-philosopher that I am. Still other thoughts will mildly pass in your book as either amusing or entertaining or at least worth as much time to you had you spent the same amount of time petting your cat. Every book has plenty of that, this one no doubt, included. Finally though and this "finally" is why I applied myself very diligently to get this quite lengthy work written there will be the occasion when you will feel refreshed with the breeze of an enlightening concept; it will smack you in a soft spot, as you experience the euphoria of having had your mind stimulated, and your spirits lifted. For these times, the book was written, and in those (few or many) instances, you will openly be openly thankful, just as I was grateful to the Universe for showing to me these things in the first place.
