This title proposes a theory of the reject, a more adequate figure than the subject for thinking friendship, love, community, democracy, the post-secular, and the post-human. Through close readings of Nancy, Deleuze, Derrida, Cixous, Clément, Bataille, Balibar, Rancière, and Badiou, it shows how the reject has always been nascent in contemporary French thought. The recent turn to animals and bare life, as well as the rise of the Occupy movement, also present a special urgency to think the reject today.

This book proposes a theory of the reject, a more adequate figure than the subject for thinking friendship, love, community, democracy, the postsecular, and the posthuman. Through close readings of Nancy, Deleuze, Derrida, Cixous, Clement, Bataille, Balibar, Ranciere, and Badiou, Goh shows how the reject has always been nascent in contemporary French thought. The recent turn to animals and bare life, as well as the rise of the Occupy movement, he argues, presents a special urgency to think the reject today. Thinking the reject most importantly helps to advance our commitment to affirm others without acculturating their differences. But the reject also offers, Goh proposes, a response finally commensurate with the radical horizon of Nancy’s question of who comes after the subject.

Jeff Turner was raised in Custom House in the East End of London, with seven siblings to share a three-bedroom council house. When the Sex Pistols' God Save the Queen hit, his brother Mickey picked up a guitar and Jeff picked up a microphone, and together they stormed the music scene as The Cockney Rejects. The Rejects stood for being young, working class, and not taking anything from anyone, resulting in aggression and violence being the main staple at their shows. However, the madness couldn't last forever, and as chaos at the gigs spiraled out of control, so did the band. Jeff was left dazed and penniless, and here tells his story.

An increasing number of parents are refusing vaccines, believing vaccines pose greater risks than benefits to their children. Given the certainty of the medical community that vaccines are safe and effective, many wonder how such parents, who are most likely to be white, have high levels of education, and have the greatest access to healthcare services and resources, could hold such beliefs? Reich has been following the issue of vaccine refusal for over a decade, and examines how parents who opt out of vaccinations see their decision: what they fear, what they hope to control, and what they believe is in their child's best interest. -- adapted from back cover

High Pack Notice: All rejects must report to Wolfe Island for immediate processing and island assignment. Since I'm single for life, I'm more than safe from that directive. Or so I thought. At twenty-seven, I'd given up hope of finding a true mate, which is why I followed my parents on their crazy journey across the country to settle in with a new pack. I didn't expect to find my mate the second my foot hit the green grass of Pack Ozark's territory. I also didn't expect him to reject me when he finds out I'm not pure and untouched. As he hurls insults at me, all I can think is: screw his rejection. My name is Bellatrix and I'm despicable.
