Izzy Harrington's fiance is a successful entrepreneur and everyone's friend, but today she's waiting for him to get home so she can tell him they're over. Except Brad never arrives. Instead, three angry men knock on the door and insist on talking to Brad. When the police arrive asking difficult questions and demanding to see his passport, Izzy's packed suitcases suddenly take on a whole new meaning. Brad's disappearance sends ripples through their small town and a furious mob camps on Izzy's lawn desperate to recover their losses. Sheba Investment Network (SIN) is a group of 15 women who meet once a month to have fun and make money. Three years ago, only one of them had ever owned a share before. Now, they hold stockmarket investments that have a 30%-35% return---an excellent investment by anyone's standard. They taught themselves how to do it, and in The Money Club they show readers how they, too, can set up their own money club. The group (which is based in Sydney) was an offshoot of a book club. Its members thought, 'If we can have fun together reading and discussing books, why don't we expand our skills, acquire an understanding of investment, and make some money!' And so they did. With almost half of all Australians now dabbling in the stockmarket, the time is ripe for this book, in which four of the members guide beginners through the process. The book is a great, lively read---as you would expect from a group where the social aspect is as important as the money. In it, the women tell their stories (including the chartered accountant who 'fesses up to never having had a long-term financial plan before this!) and show us their decision-making in action (including lively debates about ethical issues--should they invest in casinos? In gun-makers?--and the reliability of "hot tips"), they tell us about their successes and their mistakes. It includes all the administrative aspects of running such a club as well, so all readers have to do is copy the Partnership Agreement, or follow the prompts on keeping accounts. It couldn't be easier. Women are the target audience and, with the current interest in investing, there should be an eager market for such an easy-to-understand, enjoyable book. And the authors have proven financial savvy--their returns rate is well above most investors'.
