This book aims to further advance the field of reintroduction biology beyond the considerable progress made since the formation of the IUCN/SSC Re-introduction Specialist Group. Using an issue-based framework that purposely avoids a structure based on case studies the book's central theme is advocating a strategic approach to reintroduction where all actions are guided by explicit theoretical frameworks based on clearly defined objectives. Issues covered include husbandry and intensive management, monitoring, and genetic and health management. Although taxonomically neutral there is a recognised dominance of bird and mammal studies that reflects the published research in this field. Current Therapy in Medicine of Australian Mammals provides an update on Australian mammal medicine. Although much of the companion volume, Medicine of Australian Mammals, is still relevant and current, there have been significant advances in Australian mammal medicine and surgery since its publication in 2008. Based on a selection of papers presented at the Norway/UN Conference on Alien Species, Trondheim, Norway

A major symposium on macropods (kangaroos, wallabies and rat-kangaroos), sponsored by the Australian Mammal Society, was held in July 2006 at the University of Melbourne. It brought together the many recent advances in the biology of this diverse group of mammals and looked at: structure and function; neglected macropods; population biology; and macropod management. A total of 78 authors have contributed 34 chapters to the book, which concentrates on new developments in macropod biology, including topics such as genomics, landscape ecology, endangered species and fertility control.
