Minimally invasive surgery has evolved as an alternative to the traditional approaches in orthopedic surgery and has gathered a great deal of attention. Many surgeons are now p- forming all types of procedures through smaller surgical felds. Along with changes in the surgical technique, there have been rapid advances in computer navigation and robotics as tools to enhance the surgeon’s vision in the limited operative felds. With these new techniques and technologies, we must ensure that these procedures are performed safely and effectively with predictable clinical outcomes. This book has been expanded from our previous publi- tions to include spine and foot and ankle surgery, along with updated sections on knee arth- plasty, hip arthroplasty, and upper extremity surgery. The clinical information and surgical techniques, along with tips and pearls, provided by experts in the feld allows the reader to grasp a comprehensive understanding of the nuances of MIS. It is our intention that this text will be a valuable reference for all orthopedic surgeons. New York, NY Giles R. Scuderi, MD Piscataway, NJ Alfred J. With the time available to surgeons-in-training ever dwindling, there is great emphasis placed on practical learning tools. Mirroring his earlier book on practical procedures in trauma surgery, Prof Giannoudis has produced a reference in more elective techniques. In most medical schools, most emphasis is placed on orthopaedic trauma surgery, with elective techniques often delayed until much later in a surgeon’s training.

Demonstrating current management techniques for traumatic fractures and dislocations of the upper extremity, this atlas utilizes a practical, how-to structure, discussing philosophy, approach, patient positioning, prepping, draping, and surgical techniques for each type of injury. Generously illustrated with intraoperative photos, the chapters of this atlas are arranged by anatomic location, from the clavicle and shoulder down to the fingers, with each chapter briefly describing the thought processes involved in choosing surgical interventions and applied anatomy approaches, fixation selections, and techniques. Actual case examples, cadaver photos and plentiful radiographs illustrate the text for a strongly visual presentation, and a list of "Eglsederisms" - pithy bits of advice for residents and veteran surgeons alike - set the stage for a highly demonstrative resource for orthopedic and trauma surgeons, residents and fellows.

Operative Dictations in Orthopedic Surgery is a valuable resource for teaching orthopedic surgical trainees and practicing orthopedic surgeons how to document their operative procedures. The book includes the majority of the commonly performed orthopedic procedures. For each procedure, a list of common indications is given, covering 95% of the situations in which particular procedures will be used, as well as a list of essential steps. This is then followed by a list intended to prompt the surgeon for particular details to note and dictate within the template, a list of possible complications that are typically associated with a particular surgical procedure, and templates of operative dictation that allow the surgeon to individualize their dictations. Ample space is also provided to allow each surgeon to add notes. Concise and easy to use, Operative Dictations in Orthopedic Surgery is a unique tool for orthopedics surgical residents and residents in practice that better prepares them to participate actively and learn as much as possible in the operating room.
