A modern classic on the gentle art of discipline for toddlers, by the internationally renowned childcare expert, podcaster, and author of Elevating Child Care “No Bad Kids provides practical ways to respond to the challenges of toddlerhood while nurturing a respectful relationship with your child.”—Tina Payne Bryson, PhD, co-author of The Whole-Brain Child and No-Drama Discipline Janet Lansbury is unique among parenting experts. As a RIE teacher and student of pioneering child specialist Magda Gerber, her advice is not based solely on formal studies and the research of others, but also on her more than twenty years of hands-on experience guiding hundreds of parents and their toddlers. A collection of her most popular articles about toddler behavior, No Bad Kids presents her signature approach to discipline, which she sees as a parent’s act of compassion and love for a child. Full of wisdom and encouragement, it covers common toddler concerns such as: • Why toddlers need clear boundaries—and how to set them without yelling • What's going on when they bite, hit, kick, tantrum, whine, and talk back • Advice for parenting a strong-willed child • How to be a gentle leader, and Lansbury’s secret for staying calm For parents who are anticipating or experiencing those critical years when toddlers are developmentally obliged to test the limits of our patience and love, No Bad Kids is a practical, indispensable resource for putting respectful discipline into action.

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 There is no question that children need discipline. However, the key to effective discipline is our attitude. Don’t be afraid or take misbehavior personally. When toddlers act out, respond in the moment, calmly, like a CEO. #2 The best way to discipline a child is to respond to his behavior with love, not with pain. Children need rules, but their emotional responses to the limits we set should be allowed.

This book was written as a result of the author and his wife spending several years providing for kids who needed a home. There are many, many books written on the subject of Òat riskÓ children and/or foster children. Most, if not all, are written by clinical psychologists or other Ôpeople of learningÕ who believe that they are child advocates. NOT THIS ONE! This one tells it like it really is! After the mandatory hours of ÔtrainingÕ (which were not needed because of raising four birth children and a teenager the boys had adopted) the author and his wife began accepting foster children. The book describes how the foster parent feels about raising foster children (and birth children). He relates from the experiences of a foster dad rather than from a clinical slant. The information, of course, applies to birth children, as well. Much information is presented to assist parents in dealing with the problems of puberty. Case studies are included as well as poems from one of the foster girls and a diary from another foster parent about her dealings with two foster children. The sequel to this book is entitled: 'Never Underestimate the Arrogance or Stupidity of Government' and covers a case in which the foster parents sued Child Protective Services for mistreatment of them as foster parents and one of their foster children. It cost them $10,000 and they were sure they would lose, but they wanted to make a statement about the screwed up system.
