This book introduces a smart fire detection system designed using a wireless sensor network and fuzzy methods. This system predicts, controls, and provides alerts to various events based on intelligent techniques. Routing protocols are performed based on intelligent procedures in which they are classified into two main groups: static and dynamic. Static protocols are used to transmit data packets between stationary nodes, while dynamic protocols are applied to transmit messages between rescue teams and fire departments. The active and passive states are specified for sensor nodes to balance the remaining energy of the nodes and prolong the network lifetime. The probability of explosion, fire, burn, and suffocation is determined based on fuzzy procedures. People affected can be guided to the exit at event places based on an intelligent method. In addition, members and dispatch routes of rescue and support teams are selected using intelligent methods to reduce financial losses and human casualties. The book will be useful for professors, researchers, and engineers in computer and electrical engineering.

Forest fires are a serious problem affecting many terrestrial ecosystems and causing substantial economic damage. Due to the increase of frequency and severity of large forest fire and wildland-urban interface fires, the World Health Organization has identified this problem as a threat to public health security in the 21st century. This book gathers and presents current research from across the globe in the study of fire detection techniques and applications. Some topics discussed, herein, include: early detection of forest fires from space using the RTM method; using the Lidar technique (light detection and ranging) for evaluation and fire surveillance; remotely sensed fire maps and historic fire regime reconstructions; aerosol and trace gas retrievals from remote sensing fire products; as well as using wireless thermal sensors to detect the positions of the fire front.

Automatic sprinklers systems are the primary fire protection system in warehouse and storage facilities. The effectiveness of this strategy has come into question due to the challenges presented by modern warehouse facilities, including increased storage heights and areas, automated storage retrieval systems (ASRS), limitations on water supplies, and changes in firefighting strategies. The application of fire detection devices used to provide early warning and notification of incipient warehouse fire events is being considered as a component of modern warehouse fire protection. Fire Detection in Warehouse Facilities provides technical information to aid in the development of guidelines and standards for the use of fire detection technologies for modern warehouse fire protection. The authors share their thorough literature review, analyze characteristic fire hazards for modern warehouse facilities, and identify information gaps in the field. The book concludes with recommendations for the development of guidelines and standards for the use of detection technologies in warehouse fire protection design, including a research plan for implementation. This book is intended for practitioners seeking an understanding of the issues surrounding warehouse design and fire protection. The book will also prove valuable for fire hazard researchers and those involved with fire department response, applicable detection systems, and fire growth suppression.

DIGITAL CITIES ROADMAP This book details applications of technology to efficient digital city infrastructure and its planning, including smart buildings. Rapid urbanization, demographic changes, environmental changes, and new technologies are changing the views of urban leaders on sustainability, as well as creating and providing public services to tackle these new dynamics. Sustainable development is an objective by which the processes of planning, implementing projects, and development is aimed at meeting the needs of modern communities without compromising the potential of future generations. The advent of Smart Cities is the answer to these problems. Digital Cities Roadmap provides an in-depth analysis of design technologies that lay a solid foundation for sustainable buildings. The book also highlights smart automation technologies that help save energy, as well as various performance indicators needed to make construction easier. The book aims to create a strong research community, to have a deep understanding and the latest knowledge in the field of energy and comfort, to offer solid ideas in the nearby future for sustainable and resilient buildings. These buildings will help the city grow as a smart city. The smart city has also a focus on low energy consumption, renewable energy, and a small carbon footprint. Audience The information provided in this book will be of value to researchers, academicians and industry professionals interested in IoT-based architecture and sustainable buildings, energy efficiency and various tools and methods used to develop green technologies for construction in smart cities.
