The 2017 edition of the Simon Dubnow Institute Yearbook encompasses two focal points: The first deals with the year 1938, an incisive year for Europe's Jews, against the background of Jewish experiences and political activities in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. On the basis of issues surrounding citizenship, minority rights, flight, and migration, this dramatic crisis is cast in a new light, with the focus placed especially on the states of Central and Eastern Europe. The second focal point takes the enduring surge in biographical research as an impetus to examine the reasons for the popularity of this genre within Jewish Studies. Using examples from current research projects on Jewish intellectuals, core issues and challenges of biographical writing are presented and discussed. The general part and the special sections of the Yearbook contain contributions on the conjunction of political and religious history, on the study of nationalism and historical semantics, as well as on Sholem Aleichem, Franz Neumann, and Ernst Grumach.

Vorschau Das Jahrbuch 2020/2021 befasst sich mit Else Lasker-Schüler und ihrem Schreiben im Kontext der deutschsprachigen Palästina-Literatur sowie den materiellen Spuren jüdischer Lebenswelten Ostmitteleuropas.

To mark the centenary of Gustav Mahler's death, one thematic focus of the Yearbook deals with the life, work and legacy of this musician of Jewish extraction in the context of culture and social politics. Another thematic focus here is early research on the Holocaust, an area of inquiry whose image in recent years has fundamentally changed. These focal areas are expanded by papers dealing with questions of political history, legal history, cultural restitution and the critique of post-modern philosophy.The regular sections of the Yearbook feature articles on Günther Anders, Shmuel Yosef Agnon and Lea Goldberg, the language question in Simon Dubnow's thinking, and the participation of Jewish anarchists in the Munich Soviet Republic (Räterepublik) of 1919.

Zwei Schwerpunkte stehen im Zentrum des Jahrbuchs 2015 des Simon-Dubnow-Instituts. Im Nachgang zum 100. Jahrestag seit Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkriegs widmet sich ein thematischer Fokus Leben und Werk des Universalhistorikers, Soziologen und Sprachphilosophen Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy (1888–1973), für den der Erste Weltkrieg zu einem epistemologischen Schlüsselerlebnis wurde. Die in dem Schwerpunkt versammelten Beiträge behandeln unter anderem die geistesgeschichtliche Bedeutung des „Leipziger Nachtgesprächs“ im Jahr 1913, an dem neben Rosenstock-Huessy auch Franz Rosenzweig und Rudolf Ehrenberg teilnahmen. Der andere thematische Schwerpunkt befasst sich mit der dokumentarischen und fiktionalen Darstellung von Geschichte nach dem Holocaust. Von der Verschiedenartigkeit der Abbildung und des Diskurses historischer und politischer Ereignisse in den darstellenden Künsten ausgehend, wird in einem weiter gefassten Rahmen nach deren Einfluss im Kontext der Erforschung der Nachkriegsgeschichte gefragt. Wie und in welchem Umfang haben Theater und Film die gesellschaftlichen Diskussionen um jüdische Geschichte und Kultur und damit die Wahrnehmungsgeschichte des Holocaust mitgestaltet. Im Allgemeinen Teil und in den Rubriken des Jahrbuchs finden sich Beiträge zur Gedächtnisgeschichte, zur Wissenschafts-und Rechtsgeschichte in Palästina/Israel, zur Religionsgeschichte sowie zur russisch-jüdischen Literatur- und Verlagsgeschichte des 19. Jahrhunderts.
