The need for health and social services to be trauma- and violence-informed has never been so pressing. In the wake of COVID-19, racial violence intensified and violence against women spiked globally. Mental health for many is worsening, while the ongoing toxic drug overdose crisis provides horrendous evidence of the impact of trauma, violence, stigma, and social inequities. Service providers across sectors are increasingly impacted by these dynamics and, without supportive environments, are burning out. Implementing Trauma- and Violence-Informed Care aims to support health and social service organizations and providers to create environments, policies, and practices to mitigate the harms of structural and interpersonal violence and the trauma that ensues. The book is organized around case examples of trauma- and violence-informed care (TVIC) implementation and impact in diverse settings, providing how-to guidance for getting started, sustaining momentum, and assessing outcomes. The book describes the importance of TVIC at multiple levels, from individual practices to organizational protocols and system-level policies, emphasizing TVIC’s alignment with system transformation goals. In doing so, the book presents TVIC as a call to action to improve service user experiences and outcomes, efficient and effective use of resources, and the health and well-being of staff, while addressing and reducing health and social inequities.

The Workshop on Integrating New Measures of Trauma into the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Data Collection Programs, held in Washington, D.C. in December 2015, was organized as part of an effort to assist SAMHSA and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in their responsibilities to expand the collection of behavioral health data to include measures of trauma. The main goals of the workshop were to discuss options for collecting data and producing estimates on exposure to traumatic events and PTSD, including available measures and associated possible data collection mechanisms. This report summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop.

Twenty-first century classrooms are diverse in nature and everchanging. Students enter classrooms with many experiences, both positive and negative, that influence and affect their ability to learn. More specifically, children who have experienced trauma often struggle socially, emotionally, and academically. Unfortunately, many educators are not adequately trained to identify the signs of trauma in children. In fact, they may misinterpret the outward behavioral manifestations of trauma as other conduct disorders. This project addresses significant factors to consider when implementing trauma-informed care in Batterer' Intervention Programs. Literature addressing trauma informed care and domestic violence interventions is discussed to demonstrate how trauma-informed care might be used with male perpetrators of domestic violence. There is a gap in the literature describing how trauma-informed care is integrated with domestic violence perpetrators, and this gap is surprising due to extensive literature supporting a clear link between trauma history and violent criminality. A checklist was created using the best practices in trauma-informed approaches and is intended to be used by agencies in a clinical setting, including Batterer' Intervention Programs seeking to integrate trauma-informed approaches when working with male batterers.
