The second edition of Family Law (Non-Muslims) in Malaysia is generally an improved version from the. first edition which was published ten years ago and heavily referred to by law students as a textbook. It discusses the substantive family laws related to the non-Muslims in Malaysia which are based on the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976- an􀀉 several other supplementary statutes. Besides updating the previous chapters on family law matters, the book updates the global concern on the appropriate law when dealing with family related disputes in the 21st century. The new topics on reconciliation and mediation are incorporated to emphasise the need for therapeutic intervention when dealing with personal relationships and encourage kindness even in the most difficult of circumstances which can have significant longer-term consequences and lead to higher levels of considerate behaviour. The philosophy of family, love and kindness must be well embraced by family law lawyers, judges and administrators of family law in the adjudication process. The book is jointly authored by family law lecturers at the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia. It will benefit not only students, academics and practitioners, but also those in the legal fraternity and those who have interest in non-Muslims' family law in Malaysia. Law in Society: Navigating Legal Complexity is a compilation of ideas written by the academic staff of the School of Law, Universiti Utara Malaysia. It is intended to reflect the dynamic nature of law and how it can coexist with society. This book is organized into three sections. It aligns its discussions by exploring the complexity of law in areas ranging from language, personal law, organization, nation-building, to Islamic finance and trade matters. As part of the editors’ primary intention, it is hoped that as legal literature, this book would be fairly readable by the general public to access legal knowledge on a smorgasbord of topics.

This book examines the representation of women in the Malaysian Parliament with a focus on the substantive representation of women in the 10th and 11th Dewan Rakyat, the lower house of the Malaysian Parliament. It aims, in particular, to see whether or not female MPs acted for women by proposing women-related issues in the Dewan Rakyat, the female MPs in the forefront of representing women are called critical actors. An in depth look at who these representative is and what were the issues they proposed has been carried out through content analysis of the parliamentary debates. A series of face-to-face interviews was conducted with these critical actors to examine what made them critical actors; considering the factors motivating them to represent women and address the problems women face. All of these components offer important insight to explore and understand the substantive representation of women in the Malaysian Parliament. Experience and gender awareness were found to be the major factors that contributed to their effective representation of women in the Parliament. Additionally, information and networking appeared to be crucial in facilitating this process. This book is suitable for both academic and public reading. In particular, it can be useful for politicians, policy makers, academics, practitioner’s, activists and student of politics who are interested in understanding about women representation in the Malaysian parliament.
