This book is designed to provide a platform for the critical evaluation of deficits of classical cotton yarn engineering approach and how they were overruled by the development of today’s ANN based scientific approach. Legendary ring spinning process is kept as a reference and various technological changes undergone by the different sectors of the yarn engineering system are elaborated. The entire book is divided into ten chapters. The opening chapter briefs on varieties of textile fibers available and amongst them identifies the significance of cotton fiber for the textile industry. It also covers up ring spinning pattern along with constraints handled due to natural fiber variations in transitory way. Artificial Neural Networking (ANN) is the upcoming software technique to replace Biological Neural Network (Human brain) for accurate resolution of complex problems, fifth chapter remits on this technology.

The art of cotton spinning has become more sophisticated since Harry and Olive Linder first set out to disprove the myth that cotton was more difficult to spin than any other fiber. When the Linders first self-published Handspinning Cotton in 1977, there were very few spinners spinning cotton; it was an almost forgotten art.Handspinning Cotton has been out-of-print since 1995 and has been sorely missed. Currently, there is no single spinning book devoted solely to cotton fiber and the unique techniques for spinning it. The rights to the Linder's self-published book has remained in their family's hands since Harry and Olive's passing. As two of the Linder's first protégés, their daughters have asked us to update and republish this treasured book.It is our honor and privilege to try to do justice to the spirit of these cotton gurus who started a cotton-spinning revolution. While cotton spinning has grownup in the past 40 years, and there are many changes in how to approach cotton spinning, we have striven, in updating this book, to keep to the original spirit of Harry and Olive Linder's teaching. Their book is still a treasure and should stay intact for all future generations of cotton spinners.

Traditional knot and interlace patterns, combined to form uniquely striking contemporary designs. Ever since her ground-breaking book Viking Patterns for Knitting was published, Elsebeth Lavold has been recognized as one of the world’s leading experts on cabling. It was within the pages of her international bestseller—described as “an indispensable milestone in 20th century knitting literature”—that Lavold first introduced the world to her own innovation: using lifted increases to create interlace patterns, and bringing new life to the ornamental heritage of the Vikings as adornment on modern knitwear. In the years since, Lavold has sought new ideas and “design cousins” to Viking patterns to explore with her needles, and has undertaken a fascinating journey through archives, museums, libraries, and the internet. In more than a decade of continued research, she has studied cultures from all over the globe in search of similar types of ornamental expression, creating the foundation for this exciting new book: a glorious collection rich in imagery, history, patterns, and designs. Dozens of different sources of inspiration, catalogued and placed within their cultural and historical context, from all around the world. Complete, step-by-step instructions for an abundance of fresh and stunningly beautiful knit designs, presented in the book with full-color photographs. Lavold’s own painstaking analysis of a huge number of interlace motif types, displayed in both swatch and chart form, to allow you to compose your own patterns based on her research.
