This is the only book-length study of Carter's work in media, a critically neglected body of work comprising five radio plays, two film adaptions, and a television documentary, as well as two unrealised screenplays, an operatic libretto, and a stage play.

Integrating significant advances in motivation science that have occurred over the last two decades, this volume thoroughly examines the ways in which motivation interacts with social, developmental, and emotional processes, as well as personality more generally.
