Advances in Modeling and Simulation in Textile Engineering: New Concepts, Methods, and Applications explains the advanced principles and techniques that can be used to solve textile engineering problems using numerical modeling and simulation. The book draws on innovative research and industry practice to explain methods for the modeling of all of these processes, helping readers apply computational power to more areas of textile engineering. Experimental results are presented and linked closely to processes and methods of implementation. Diverse concepts such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics, three-dimensional motion, and multi-phase flow are addressed. Finally, tools, theoretical principles, and numerical models are extensively covered. Textile engineering involves complex processes which are not easily expressed numerically or simulated, such as fiber motion simulation, yarn to fiber formation, melt spinning technology, optimization of yarn production, textile machinery design and optimization, and modeling of textile/fabric reinforcements. Provides new approaches and techniques to simulate a wide range of textile processes from geometry to manufacturing Includes coverage of detailed mathematical methods for textiles, including neural networks, genetic algorithms, and the finite element method Addresses modeling techniques for many different phenomena, including heat transfer, fluid dynamics and multi-phase flow

Microelectronics is one of the most rapidly changing scientific fields today. The tendency to shrink devices as far as possible results in extremely small devices which can no longer be described using simple analytical models. This book covers various aspects of advanced device modeling and simulation. As such it presents extensive reviews and original research by outstanding scientists. The bulk of the book is concerned with the theory of classical and quantum-mechanical transport modeling, based on macroscopic, spherical harmonics and Monte Carlo methods.

This book, Advances in Applied Digital Human Modeling, is concerned with Modeling, Biomechanics and Simulation. The benefit of this area of research is to aid in the design of systems. Human modeling and simulation can reduce the need for physical prototyping and incorporate ergonomics and human factors earlier in design processes. These models provide a representation of some human aspects that can be inserted into simulations or virtual environments and facilitate prediction of safety, satisfaction, usability, performance and sustainability. These may consider the physiological, cognitive, behavioral, emotional and environmental aspects. The math and science provides a foundation for visualizations that can facilitate decision making by technical experts, management or those responsible for public policy.

On January 30-31, 2019 the Board on Mathematical Sciences and Analytics, in collaboration with the Board on Energy and Environmental Systems and the Computer Science and Telecommunications Board, convened a workshop in Washington, D.C. to explore the frontiers of mathematics and data science needs for sustainable urban communities. The workshop strengthened the emerging interdisciplinary network of practitioners, business leaders, government officials, nonprofit stakeholders, academics, and policy makers using data, modeling, and simulation for urban and community sustainability, and addressed common challenges that the community faces. Presentations highlighted urban sustainability research efforts and programs under way, including research into air quality, water management, waste disposal, and social equity and discussed promising urban sustainability research questions that improved use of big data, modeling, and simulation can help address. This publication summarizes the presentation and discussion of the workshop.
