Heart disease is the leading cause of death for Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders (AAPI ). This population is one of the fastest growing minority groups in the U.S. & is expected to number 12 million by the year 2000. To promote cardiovascular health among AAPI, the Fed. gov't. has launched the ASPIRE for Healthy Hearts Project. It seeks to develop model cardiovascular outreach efforts or activities which utilize strategies that are targeted to AAPI cultures, language, & traditional beliefs. This report examine the needs & opportunities for cardiovascular health promotion for AAPI. It provides an overview of the status of cardiovascular disease among AAPI.
