The annual World Investment Report presents foreign direct investment (FDI) trends and prospects at global, regional and national levels. It also analyses the latest developments in new policy measures for investment promotion, facilitation and regulation around the world, and provides the annual update on investment treaties, their reform and investment dispute settlement cases. The 2017 edition, subtitled "Investment and the Digital Economy", investigates the internationalization patterns of digital MNEs, as well as the digitization effect on the global companies across all industries. It will provide insights to policymakers on how the digital economy impact on investment policies and how investment policy can support digital development, with a view towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

This publication presents the levels and trends in mortality from 1970 to 2015 drawn from the World Population Prospects. It highlights variations among countries in a number of mortality indicators: annual deaths; crude death rates; life expectancy at birth by sex; infant mortality; under-five mortality; and probabilities of dying from age 15 to age 60 and from birth to age 70. Estimates of mortality are complemented by information on the age distribution of deaths.

The Global Investment Competitiveness report presents new insights and evidence on drivers of foreign direct investment (FDI) in developing countries, and FDI’s role in development. The report’s survey of 750 executives of multinational corporations finds that a business-friendly legal and regulatory environment is a key driver of investment decisions in developing countries, along with political stability, security, and macroeconomic conditions. The report’s topic-specific chapters explore the potential of FDI to create new growth opportunities for local firms, assess the power of tax holidays and other fiscal incentives to attract FDI, analyze characteristics of FDI originating in developing countries, and examine the experience of foreign investors in countries affected by conflict and fragility.
