This book presents a comprehensive treatment of visual analysis of behaviour from computational-modelling and algorithm-design perspectives. Topics: covers learning-group activity models, unsupervised behaviour profiling, hierarchical behaviour discovery, learning behavioural context, modelling rare behaviours, and “man-in-the-loop” active learning; examines multi-camera behaviour correlation, person re-identification, and “connecting-the-dots” for abnormal behaviour detection; discusses Bayesian information criterion, Bayesian networks, “bag-of-words” representation, canonical correlation analysis, dynamic Bayesian networks, Gaussian mixtures, and Gibbs sampling; investigates hidden conditional random fields, hidden Markov models, human silhouette shapes, latent Dirichlet allocation, local binary patterns, locality preserving projection, and Markov processes; explores probabilistic graphical models, probabilistic topic models, space-time interest points, spectral clustering, and support vector machines.

"Analysis of Visual Behavior" encompasses both theoretical and experimental research. It deals with the visual mechanisms of diverse vertebrate species from salamanders and toads to primates and humans and presents a stimulating interaction of the disciplines of anatomy, physiology, and behavioral science. Throughout, visual mechanisms are investigated from the point of view of the brain functioning at the organismic level, as opposed to the now more prevalent focus on the molecular and cellular levels. This approach allows researchers to deal with the patterns of visually guided behavior of animals in real-life situations. The twenty-six contributions in the book are divided among three sections: "Indentification and Localization Processes in Nonmammalian Vertebrates," introduced by David J. Ingle; "Visual Guidance of Motor Patterns: The Role of Visual Cortex and the Superior Colliculus," introduced by Melvyn A. Goodale; and "Recognition and Transfer Processes," introduced by Richard J. W. Mansfield. The editors are all university researchers in psychology: David J. Ingle at Brandeis, Melvyn A. Goodale at the University of Western Ontario, and Richard J. W. Mansfield at Harvard.

In the early 1980s there had been a marked increase in the application of behavioural methods in schools. However, much of this work was weak conceptually and limited in its remit. Behaviour analysis has more to offer education than ‘smarties’ and time-out. Originally published in 1986, this collection of twenty papers, many of them experimental, serves to demonstrate the power of behaviour analysis in a wide variety of applications. The editors stress the importance of antecedent control, as well as consequence management strategies, and illustrate their relevance in solving problems in everyday situations at school and in the home. The Editors, whose own work is well represented in this collection, are acknowledged as leading researchers in this field.

Originally published in 1985, Behaviour Analysis and Contemporary Psychology presents chapters from the first European Meeting on the Experimental Analysis of Behaviour. The book is divided into six parts and provides a useful account of issues and work in behaviour analysis by both European and North American contributors at the time. The first part provides an introduction, with following parts looking at behaviourist and ethological approaches; determinants of human operant behaviour; fundamental research and behaviour modification; recent developments in the behavioural analysis of drug effects; ending with an overview of contemporary behaviourism.

Behavior and sequential Analyses provides a step-by-step approach to the principles and practices of direct observation and behaviour analysis research and evaluation procedures. Emphasis is on computer-facilitated methods designed to collect and analyze both the multiple characteristics of behaviour and events of interest and the time-based or sequential characteristics of behaviour and event relationships. Particularly designed for highly interactive applied settings, the methods and procedures outlined are presented in an introductory manner that should, nonetheless, still prove relevant to advanced students and seasoned researchers across the social and behavioural sciences and education. Behavior and sequential Analyses includes background and philosophy of applied behaviour analysis methodology, procedures for observation system construction and recommendations for handling reliability and treatment fidelity issues, a variety of data recording methods and research design types, graph preparation and visual and statistical discrete and sequential data analysis procedures, and an overview of recommended research, evaluation, and instructional applications for education, psychol

This book reviews clinical models for working with developmental disability and behavioural problems. The first section explores the causes and nature of behaviour problems amongst people with physical, learning, language and sensory disabilities, and some key specific conditions. The second section describes the assessment approaches that clinicians will find most useful in evaluating behaviour. The third section covers treatment approaches emphasising the importance of a broad, eclectic approach. The contributors, all acknowledged experts in their fields of paediatrics, psychology and psychiatry, provide a comprehensive overview of this set of major challenges, emphasising the importance of auditory detection, understanding, measurement and treatment.
