Unrequited love, quiet shame, guttural fear are the truths we hide from the world...often from those we love the most. In their second book, The Truth That Can't be Told 2, the writers of the Lake Forest Roundtable explore ideas in short stories and poems about the hidden parts of our humanness-our hearts and minds examined in ways that will move and sometimes embarrass you. Deceit lives in all of us, and this collaborative group takes on the challenge of exposing those guarded truths. The result is exciting, intimate, and daring, but with the power to make us stronger, closer, and more human. You'll delight in stories that range from baseball tales to mysteries, family dramas, war stories, sci-fi, and fantasy, with literary pieces and a collection of poems among them. Whether you laugh out loud or shed a tear, this collection will connect with the hidden something inside each of us. Book 2 of The Truth Series. Truth is harder the second time around. So is trusting your heart. Ella Ingraham almost falls for Josh Devereaux's easy charm and effortless smile. God knows, she wants to. He's made her feel more than anyone has in a long time, both in and out of bed. But one phone call changes everything. Especially when the truth about Josh is on the other end of that call. Now Ella isn't sure which is worse - Josh lying to her about his past, or the fact she can't stop thinking about him anyway. Not that he's making it easy. Josh wants to make things right and he has a plan for stopping her ex's slander campaigns against her before her next big book release. Even Ella has to admit it's a better plan than she -- or her lawyer -- have come up with. For the plan to work, though, Ella has to not only rely on Josh but trust him. Implicitly. Ella knows she'd be a fool to trust him a second time. So why is her heart trying to convince her otherwise?

If the Truth Be Told: Accounts in Literary Forms plays with the sense of truth. It is composed of six chapters, “Childhood Dangers,” “Relational Logics,” “Jesus Chronicles,” “Criminal Tales,” “Aging, Illness, and Death Lessons,” and “Telling Truths.” Each chapter includes fictional and nonfictional accounts, including poems, stories, monologues, short dramas, essays, creative nonfiction, and mixed genres, to address each chapter’s subject. Pieces are based on the author’s personal experiences, newspapers accounts, and purely fictional accounts (all revealed in an appendix at the end of the book). Moving through the book from beginning to end, readers may or may not know whether they are reading a nonfictional or fictional text. Pelias intentionally subverts assumptions readers may have in reading the different pieces in order to blur the boundaries of what counts as evidence, what might be accepted as truth, what might be of use in everyday lives. In this vein, Pelias invites readers to consider what they value and why. As an engaging compilation of literary works, this book can be read by anyone simply for pleasure. If Truth Be Told can also be used in any number of college courses in communication, creative writing, cultural studies, ethics, narrative inquiry, philosophy, psychology, sociology and qualitative inquiry. The book includes an extensive appendix with general and chapter-by-chapter discussion questions. “If the truth be told, I’d confess that I found myself in many of the stories he told; I anticipate that other readers will as well, and we’ll all be better for it. If the Truth Be Told solidifies Pelias’s standing as a wise and creative writer par excellence.” – Carolyn Ellis, University of South Florida “For anyone interested in learning how to poetically and creatively capture the human experience, If the Truth be Told is a must read. Each tale richly satisfies yet whets the desire for more; the only solution is to keep reading right through to the end.”– Lesa Lockford, Bowling Green State University Ronald J. Pelias has spent his career working with the fusion of performance, literature, and qualitative methods in an ongoing search for truths that provide momentary places of rest.

This book was originally intended to be (a 3 Volume set or Trilogy, but has been shortened to a single volume and edited for publication as a single title), Not afraid To Tell The Truth which could be subtitled: Exposing the conspiracy of silence in the Last Days, it is not a book about discipleship necessarily, nor is it a book you could use as a guideline for counseling; rather it is a book written with the intention of shedding light upon (13) contrasting themes running through the whole of Gods Word, which the author believes have become confused by Western Christian wrong thinking, preaching and practice in the last days of the Church age*. False teachers and heretical teachings have crept into the Church unawares bringing with it a form of captivity similar to the captivity of the nation Israel, but with far graver consequences.

Magic realism has long been treated as a phenomenon restricted to postcolonial literature. Drawing on works from Britain, Lies that Tell the Truth compellingly shows how magic realist fiction can be produced also at what is usually considered to be the cultural centre without forfeiting the mode’s postcolonial attitude and aims. A close analysis of works by Angela Carter, Salman Rushdie, Jeanette Winterson, Robert Nye and others reveals how the techniques of magic realism generate a complex critique of the West’s rational-empirical worldview from within a Western context itself. Understanding magic realism as a fictional analogue of anthropology and sociology, Lies that Tell the Truth reads the mode as a frequently humorous but at the same time critical investigation into people’s attempts to make sense of their world. By laying bare the manifold strategies employed to make meaning, magic realist fiction indicates that knowledge and reality cannot be reduced to hard facts, but that people’s dreams and fears, ideas, stories and beliefs must equally be taken into account.
