This book is a middle-grade fiction story, the first in a trilogy. Cousins Nick and Sid Parson are twelve year old students at the Junior Astronaut Academy in the town of Waterbeach. When their fathers, who are astronauts and brothers, vanish on a secret mission to Earth-180, the boys are asked to fly into space and go look for them. The boys encounter lots of danger and adventures on the way and on Earth-180, until finally they have enough clues to find their fathers, who were kidnapped in space by an alien race called the Orangies.
