THE SILENT SCREAM As an early teenager, Sharon moved with her family to a part of the country not far from where she had grown up, but culturally, it was a million miles away. She endured the hardships of not being accepted in school or in the community and then one day she realized that she was a stranger in her own family. Sharon tried to reason whether her parents had always been that way or if they had been coerced into accepting a strange way of life. They had become treasonous enemies against her very soul. Eventually she was forced to change, or become, a good actor in order to survive to adulthood. She felt confused not knowing what to do or where to go, she was only sixteen Thinking she would endure a loveless marriage and build a normal life for herself, she made mistakes. She had no intention of letting the children she bore become a product of that destructive environment - she would flee one way or another. Later in life, thousands of miles away, she encountered even greater challenges than she had experienced in the place from which she had escaped Relative power governed the world of her teens. A turn to politics showed her another world of falsehoods. Greed, money, and the search for truth ruled her life as an adult. There was no winning; no life of normalcy - until the truth finally set her free. Like following a true compass, she found her refuge and learned that success is a journey not a destination.

The “definitive” book on the U-2 episode and its disastrous impact on the future of the Cold War (Kirkus Reviews). On May Day 1960, Soviet forces downed a CIA spy plane flown deep into Soviet territory by Francis Gary Powers two weeks before a crucial summit. This forced President Dwight Eisenhower to decide whether, in an effort to save the meeting, to admit to Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev—and the world—that he had secretly ordered Powers’s flight, or to claim that the CIA could take such a significant step without his approval. In rich and fascinating detail, Mayday explores the years of U-2 flights, which Eisenhower deemed “an act of war,” the US government’s misconceived attempt to cover up the true purpose of the flight, Khrushchev’s dramatic revelation that Powers was alive and in Soviet custody, and the show trial that sentenced the pilot to prison and hard labor. From a U-2’s cramped cockpit to tense meetings in the Oval Office, the Kremlin, Camp David, CIA headquarters, the Élysée Palace, and Number Ten Downing Street, historian Michael Beschloss draws on previously unavailable CIA documents, diaries, and letters, as well as the recollections of Eisenhower’s aides, to reveal the full high-stakes drama and bring to life its key figures, which also include Richard Nixon, Allen Dulles, and Charles de Gaulle. An impressive work of scholarship with the dramatic pacing a spy thriller, Mayday “may be one of the best stories yet written about just how those grand men of diplomacy and intrigue conducted our business” (Time).

Sometimes, when you ask the universe for your soulmate, you wind up with your hate mate instead. On Nami's 30th birthday, she’s reminded at every turn that her life isn’t what she planned. She’s always excelled at everything – until now. Her fiancé blew up their engagement. Her pride and joy, the tech company she helped to found, is about to lose funding. And her sister, Sora, is getting married to the man of her dreams, Jack, and instead of being happy for her, as she knows she ought to be, she’s fighting off jealousy. Frustrated with her life, she makes a wish on a birthday candle to find her soulmate. Instead, the universe delivers her hate mate, Nami’s old high school nemesis, Jae Lee, the most popular kid from high school, who also narrowly beat her out for valedictorian. More than a decade later, Jae is still as effortlessly cool, charming, and stylish as ever, and, to make matters worse, is planning a hostile take-over of her start-up. Cue: sharp elbows and even sharper banter as the two go head-to-head to see who’ll win this time. But when their rivalry ignites a different kind of passion, Nami starts to realize that it's not just her company that's in danger of being taken over, but her heart as well. "Readers will cheer on this pair of sparring hearts." - Publishers Weekly (Starred Review)
