Scotts Recipient of Grace is as American as apple pie with an African American flavor. His story spans racial segregation in the 1930s to the election of President Barack Obama in the Twenty First Century. He begins his story as a poor black youth in the border state of MO and concludes his incredible journey in Washington, D.C. as the Chief Operating Officer, Library of Congress. In between, Dons journey as a soldier in the US Army is richly told and includes the undercurrent of racial tensions in Vietnam and throughout his efforts to remain competitive for schooling and promotions in his 30 year army career. What appears to be the end of a successful army career as a Brigadier General is the beginning of a Cinderella like post military adventure. His surprise appointment by Maynard Jackson (deceased) as the Chief of Staff, Atlanta City Government, selection and appointment by President Bill Clinton as the founding director of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps, and rigorous pursuit by a national search team that won his appointment as the Deputy Librarian help explain the reasons behind the title, Recipient of Grace.

Winner of the 2005 Donald Hall Prize in Poetry. Grace is John Hodgen’s third book of poetry. He is a poet of extreme contrasts, offering us the dregs of despair, yet instantly recalling hope in the beauty of nature or in a moment in time when all is right, when we realize grace. In “For the Leapers” the narrator relates, “We will fall past the angels, / we will fall from such height, / our tears will lift up from our eyes. / We will fall straight through hell. / And then we will rise.” Hodgen’s poems roam through history, religion, man-made disasters, baseball, pop culture, and Wal-Marts, on paths that come full circle with remarkable completeness, maturity, and dexterity.

God’s extraordinary grace is hard to grasp—but made easier to understand through stories of God’s people. Gary Chapman and Chris Fabry search the Scriptures for examples of God’s grace in the lives of those named in Jesus’ lineage, but what they find are people with faults, foibles, and sins, just like the rest of us. So obviously, grace is not about doing everything exactly right. It is a gift . . . an astonishing gift given by God. In Extraordinary Grace, you will hear the call of grace; laugh because of grace; apply grace; be overtaken by grace; and know the extraordinary grace that comes from loving Jesus. Chapter studies, for individuals or groups, will help you to find examples of extraordinary grace reflected in the lineage of Jesus.

For centuries people have enjoyed singing about the "amazing grace" of God. Discover in the book, FREELY BY HIS GRACE, why God's grace is so amazing . . . and free! Grace is what distinguishes authentic biblical Christianity from every world religion. Grace is free to the recipient but costly to the Giver. It changes lives and eternal destinies. It characterizes the Giver as "the God of all grace." Theology itself, therefore, must be absorbed with God's grace. FREELY BY HIS GRACE provides a thoroughly biblical approach to theology, demonstrating how God's grace remains consistently "free" in such relevant areas as Free Grace theology, Grace, the Gospel, Lordship Salvation, Discipleship, Faith, Repentance, Regeneration, Eternal Security, Assurance, Sin, Sanctification, Rewards, Dispensationalism, Missions, Evangelism, and Disciple making. FREELY BY HIS GRACE is written by fourteen different authors and leaders, including pastors, professors, seminary presidents, and ministry leaders, who provide a wealth of sound biblical, theological, and practical insight into the theme of God's amazing and free grace.
