Political Uncertainty, Violence and Hope in Uganda: A Personal Account demonstrates both the tumultuous and hopeful aspects of Uganda’s political history. Much as the first 20 years of Uganda’s independence saw politics of experimentation, intrigue, and lack of ethics, sliding the country into a journey of uncertainty and violence, the latter years saw hope and economic progress. The book first introduces the author, both as a civilian and a soldier. Chapter 2 examines Milton Obote’s social, economic, and military policies, and how they catapulted Idi Amin to power in 1971. Chapter 3 crystallizes Uganda’s political uncertainty and violence, which saw over 300,000 Ugandans murdered under Amin. Subsequent chapters describe the armed national efforts to depose Amin and Obote from power. These culminated in Museveni’s takeover from the Okello Junta in 1986. The Museveni takeover triggered a series of political oppositions and insurgencies that spanned almost 20 years. The NRA/NRM has since neutralized and defeated those insurgencies, ushering in unprecedented peace and hope that have seen Uganda recover from economic quagmire and political turmoil to a developing country. Uganda is now bracing for middle-income status, which ushers in the book’s last chapter: Is There Hope for Uganda?

Christianity, Politics and the Afterlives of War in Ugandasheds critical light on the complex and unstable relationship between Christianity and politics, and peace and war. Drawing on long-running ethnographic fieldwork in Uganda's largest religious communities, it maps the tensions and ironies found in the Catholic and Anglican Churches in the wake of war between the Lord's Resistance Army and the Government of Uganda. It shows how churches' responses to the war were enabled by their embeddedness in local communities. Yet churches' embeddedness in structures of historical violence made their attempts to nurture peace liable to compound conflict. At the heart of the book is the Acholi concept of anyobanyoba, 'confusion', which depicts an experienced sense of both ambivalence and uncertainty, a state of mixed-up affairs within community and an essential aspect of politics in a country characterized by the threat of state violence. Foregrounding vulnerability, the book advocates 'confusion' as an epistemological and ethical device, and employs it to meditate on how religious believers, as well as researchers, can cultivate hope amid memories of suffering and on-going violence.

This book is about a shocking revelation of a sovereign country- Uganda, which is under abominable siege, by a foreign occupation army from Rwanda, with its diabolic criminal gang, who entered Uganda as refugees, including the so-called General Yoweri Museveni. It was alleged that they fled their country Rwanda escaping the Hutu's heightened political tensions and repressions in the 60s, under J. Habyarimana's regime. By the time Uganda gained its Independence from the British in 1962, it was unthinkable, why the British who were watching the massive Tutsi-Rwanda influx into Uganda yet, they could not stop it, why? But in 1980, the Tutsi-Rwanda ethnic groups had organized themselves and formed their military front -the NRA/RPU-Rwanda Patriotic Unity under Yoweri Museveni, the guerrilla warfare Leader. The NRA/RPU waged guerrilla warfare against the Government forces commanded by General Tito Okello until he was defeated, and so, they seized power by the barrel of the gun in 1986. It was a terrible miscalculated scenario as nobody could dare question the Guerrilla army their legality and mandate to govern the country. It was a hoax. General Museveni's totalitarian, the-ruthless regime, has deliberately destroyed the country to its foundation and sold whatever the national assets available, and looted whatever they could get hold of, yet, they have committed heinous and unspeakable atrocities to the citizens of Uganda. They have committed crimes against humanity, with Museveni's fatality list around a million lives. This book is a whistle blower to the world, that Uganda ceased to be a sovereign country from February 1986, the period General Museveni seized power from Ugandans and the country is under siege since. Finally, Ugandans appeal to the International Community, United Nations, and African Unity and all peace-loving people in the world, to come to the Ugandans'resque as General Museveni's diabolic -the ruthless regime is waiting to crush and slaughter thousands of demonstrators at the country's general election, their only hope to liberate Uganda from the foreign forces of Tutsi-Rwanda' s army of occupation. The International Community's intervention is essential to avert another Rwanda genocide in Uganda.

Parliamentary Democracy in Uganda: The Experiment that Failed explores Ugandas malaise of armed dissidents, repression of political parties, military adventurism in neighboring countries, grinding poverty in the countryside and political uncertainty arising from accumulated failure of successive regimes to cultivate a culture of peaceful transfer of power. In light of this, the democratization process envisaged at the time of independence has been frustrated. The author sets out to unravel the cause of that frustration and impasse by tracing the beginning of Ugandas political institutions, particularly the central government organs established in the last century. The new institutions and political organs were basically designed to forge Uganda ahead as a united and stable nation. An attempt is made to critically examine the foundations upon which these institutions were built. It is argued that the institutions were laid under a hostile environment of political diversity and multicultural heritage without an inbuilt balancing mechanism. Accordingly the book recounts the difficult process of nation building undertaken in Uganda, with particular emphasis on the problems encountered in reconciling the new political institutions with the entrenched conservative traditional institutions in the South of the country (the Buganda Agreement of 1900 and other agreements with the kingdoms of Ankole, Tooro and Bunyoro). The author acknowledges the contribution made by the leaders of various political parties towards the task of nation building. It was a task undertaken amidst forces of feudalism and religious animosity. They were men and women of extraordinary foresight who had a clear vision of a new independent Uganda curved out of peoples of diverse cultural backgrounds. This book provides yet another vision of the future and suggests ideas of how to overcome the political impasse that has bedeviled the country since independence.

There is a new mood in Uganda. There is a determination to reak out of the bitter history of internal conflict. Uganda gives hope to all those other areas of the world where violence has become endemic such as Ulster, Lebanon, and Sri Lanka.
