Red is 16 and lives with Granny in a cottage in the village, where boarding up the house and hiding during wolftime is a means of survival. Red help's Granny with Granny's baked good business, catering as well as door-to-door (in a basket) sales. Red has a constant internal battle between her wild side and her strict, overprotective upbringing, and the issue of "control" as she discovers she has a hot temper when the "mean girls" push her too far. ("When we learn to control it, we needn't fear it," Rumpelstiltskin says in the series.) She has flashbacks to her 13th year when she recieved her cloak and the nickname "Red." She is plagued by nightmares that she doesn't understand, but the Once Upon a Time fans will recognize them as her wolf side coming. Also, the forest creatures that used to accompany her on her deliveries are suddenly afraid of her once she turns 13. She'll be taller and faster than the others at her school, and witty and strong on the outside, though she has a soft side as well. Red balances the difficult times with Granny at home and the girls at school with an emerging and satisfying romance with Peter.

A one-of-a-kind voice lights up this witty, heartwarming debut set in 1985 Tennessee about the power of homespun wisdom (even when it's wrong), the clash between appearances and secrets, and the barriers to getting help even when it's needed most. Lyndie B. Hawkins loves history, research, and getting to the truth no matter what. But when it comes to her family, her knowledge is full of holes. Like, what happened to her father in the Vietnam War? Where does he disappear to for days? And why exactly did they have to move in with her grandparents? Determined to mold recalcitrant Lyndie into a nice Southern girl even if it kills her, her fusspot grandmother starts with lesson number one- Family=Loyalty=keeping quiet about family secrets. Especially when it comes to Lyndie's daddy. Then DB, a boy from the local juvenile detention center comes to stay with Lyndie's best friend, Dawn. He's as friendly and open as a puppy. There to shape up his act, he has an optimism that's infectious. But it puts Lyndie in direct opposition to her grandmother who'd rather keep up appearances than get her son the help he needs. "When was the last time a story broke your heart and made you laugh in the same chapter? A veritable gold mine of perfect words and fine storytelling, The True History of Lyndie B. Hawkins will stay with you long after you close the book." --Augusta Scattergood, author of Glory Be

Strangers don't come to Storybrooke. The town's residents are victims of a curse--trapped by an Evil Queen in a world without magic, they don't remember that they were once Snow White, Prince Charming, Jiminy Cricket, and other characters from a fairytale world. The curse keeps them in Storybrooke, and keeps everyone else out...until a dark stranger with a typewriter arrives on a motorcycle. August, the mysterious newcomer, claims to be in Storybrooke because, as a writer, the town inspires him. As the other characters discover, though, he knows more about fairytales than he lets on. With one foot in the nonmagical world, one foot in fairytale land, and both hands on a typewriter, August is the perfect narrator to tell fans the story of ONCE UPON A TIME's first season and ready them for a surprise in the next.

The 1919 World Series is baseball's black eye, resulting in eight members of the White Sox being banned from the game for life for intentionally losing the series. Moviegoers recognize Shoeless Joe Jackson, the slugging outfielder for the Sox, from such popular films as Eight Men Out and Field of Dreams. And most baseball aficionados have seen photos of the grim-faced baseball commissioner who banned the offending players from the game. But there is another side to the story, revealed for the first time in Red Legs and Black Sox. Author Susan Dellinger focuses on the series from the Cincinnati Reds’ perspective, as told by her grandfather, Edd Roush, star player of the 1919 Reds. This is a story that is far more complicated than previous movies and books have alluded to, involving fixes on both teams — and corruption right down to the leagues themselves.
