As an adult, Kayla, who suffered from a spinal deformity or scoliosis reflects back on her childhood. Kayla was 6 years old at the time. During a late October family picnic to a National Park outside of Ashville, North Carolina, Kayla discovers a crooked and dying fir tree growing out of a large boulder. The tree seemed to be calling to her like a shining light in the dark. Magical fairy-like butterflies were darting in and out of the branches. After obtaining permission and help from the Park Ranger, who realized the tree would probably die anyway, Kayla was able to take the tree home. When the family returned home, the tree was planted under Kayla's bedroom window. When the tree received love and attention, it started to become taller and straight. The same was slowly happening to Kayla through the years. Those magical butterfly-like critters encourage her with their silly sayings. The tree offered hope and encouragement for Kayla, and for other neighborhood children who were suffering from special needs. As the years went by, both Kayla and the magical Christmas tree grew taller and straighter. Now Kayla is almost socliosis-free and enjoys a normal life. Kayla is now married and has a child which is named HOPE!

A spiteful move by another dressage competitor who is sponsored by the same group as Kayla throws a wrench into things. One ill-advised action, captured on film, threatens to ruin Kayla’s reputation, and could result in the loss of her sponsorship. Author and illustrator L. M. Haynes has created a quintessential Christmas story in his illustrated children's book titled The Magical Christmas Tree. Interleaved with full page drawings, he captures the storyboard tale of the Scott's family, starting and running a Christmas Tree Farm in Vermont. Established in 1959, Everett Scott and his wife Cecilia moved to a small town called Castle Falls. Working as a handyman and various other odd jobs, Everett always dreamed of having a Christmas tree farm. When he finally got the farm started, working the land with his sons, Everett noticed "something different" about one of his trees. While all of the trees needed occasional pruning to maintain their perfect shape, this one tree in particular grew with an ideal form, and even more strangely had a yellow glowing aura surrounding it. It was indeed a special tree. The story then moves to Ellie, a young girl who was in failing health from an unknown illness. The doctors seemed to be unable to help Ellie, as day by day her health continued to decline. Her brother, Aaron Anderson, wrote a letter to the local newspaper, the Castle Falls Gazette, simply asking for prayers and support of the townsfolk. This caught the attention of Everett - he knew exactly what to do. He delivered the magical Christmas tree to Ellie's family; the rest of the story follows a miraculous recovery. Combining the elements of faith, prayers, healing, and spiritual power manifested in a Christmas tree, L.M. Haynes draws readers into the story with both credible names of characters, locations and artistic illustrations, resulting in a book which will become a favorite to all readers. The Magical Christmas Tree will not only grace the bedtime story choice for children around the holiday season, but with the theme of healing from prayers, this book is also a guiding light of hope for everyone, all throughout the year, especially those who may come down with an illness. The galley text layout along with the many illustrations brings The Magical Christmas Tree into a "Best in Class" genre of children's books - and given the minutia of detail weaved throughout the book, it generates the credibility of being a true story in which parents and adults would also enjoy just as much. This is a book which is a "must-have" for all growing families of faith, love and hope.

Once upon a time in a small forest on the outskirts of Tulsa, Oklahoma deep in the woods there lived a unique tree. Although there were many other trees that grew in the forest this tree was very different because it didnt grow like the other trees. It was tall, thin, and had very few branches and needles. One day some men came through the forest to cut down some of the trees. Christmas was coming in four days and they needed some trees to take back into town to the Christmas tree lot. They cut down lots of trees from the forest when one of the workers came across the awkward looking tree. Look at this awkward looking tree, said the worker. I dont think we should take this tree back to the lot. Another worker replied, It is a weird looking tree but lets take it anyway and well sell it very cheap. So the worker cut down the tree. No one is going to buy this ugly tree, he said, as he threw it on the back of the truck. They all laughed, but little did they know, the weird looking tree had magical powers.
