There are few destinations in Europe where you can enjoy typical 'summer' outdoor pursuits in the middle of winter. However, Spain's Costa Blanca is one such place and the range and quality of activities on offer is outstanding. This multi-activity guide presents a handpicked selection of 60 ridge routes, via ferratas, canyons, sport-climbing crags, trad-climbing crags, hikes, trail runs and road-cycling routes to inspire keen adventurers to explore the region's striking ridges, peaks, crags and barrancos (canyons). A broad spectrum of activities is covered - although since many of the routes involve climbing skills and rope-work, the guide is particularly well suited to climbers interested in a multi-activity holiday - and there are plenty of mid-grade options. Although quieter in winter, Costa Blanca is well served for accommodation and facilities, with easy access from Alicante. The guide includes plenty of useful information to help you plan your holiday and directions to help you locate the start-point for each activity. All of the activities are clearly graded and include route description and mapping and - for the climbing routes and via ferratas - photo topos illustrating the line of the route. Handy tables summarise the key information, making it easy to choose an activity to suit. With inspiring colour photography to whet your appetite, Costa Blanca Mountain Adventures is the perfect companion to discovering the adventures that await in this bounteous region.

Multi-activity guidebook to the Haute Maurienne region of south east France. The book describes a wide range of the finest day walks, scrambles, rock climbs, via ferratas, treks and mountain biking and road cycling routes, offering all the inspiration needed for a multi-activity or family holiday. The Maurienne valley is served by good transport links, Modane serves as the gateway to the upper valley with links from Paris and Turin served by the TGV. Lanslebourg is the largest village after Modane and offers plenty of choice of accommodation, and Termignon is a reasonably central base for exploring the Haute Maurienne. Routes vary from pretty Alpine lake rambles to mammoth mountain bike routes and include the normal route to the summit of Dent Parrachee, the Matterhorn of the valley that can be reached without crossing a glacier, and arranged by difficulty. Information about facilities and grades for each activity are carefully explained and routes are illustrated with sketch maps, topos and profiles and inspiring photographs. The Vanoise massif is a beautiful range of mountains bounded by the valleys of the Maurienne and the Tarentaise. Sitting on the French-Italian border, the Upper Maurienne (Haute Maurienne) has a southern boundary bordering the Italian region of Piedmont. Its northern border is less pronounced, as the massif of the Vanoise blurs the boundary with the Tarentaise valley.

This book is a celebration of mountain huts, showcasing the the sheer variety and sometimes quirky nature of these buildings that allow walkers, trekkers and climbers to access remote corners of the mountains. Packed with entertaining stories that bring the places and people to life, it contains descriptions of the author's favourite huts in the Alps, along with suggestions for hut-to-hut tours of 3-13 days duration, including the Tour of Mont Blanc. It also traces the history of huts and how they have evolved from the most primitive of shelters to the often purpose-built, eco-friendly buildings of today. For the uninitiated, it unravels some of the mystery of huts and explains how to use them and what facilities to expect. Above all, it illustrates the way in which mountain huts can be truly sociable places, where like-minded people can spend a night or two in the most magical of locations and share a love of wild places.
