For the third time in three decades world leaders reaffirmed their promise of "Education For All" when adopting Sustainable Development Goal 4 in 2015. It is the most far-reaching commitment to quality and equity in education so far, yet, there is no consensus on what the agenda means in practice. With a decade left until the 2030 deadline, Grading Goal Four calls upon the education community to engage more thoughtfully and critically with SDG 4 and related efforts. As an ever-growing number of actors and initiatives claim to contribute to its achievement, it is becoming clear that the ambitious but broad priorities within the goal are vulnerable to cherry-picking and misrepresentation, placing it at the heart of tensions between instrumentalist and rights-based approaches to education. This text, a critical analysis of SDG 4, provides a framework for examining trends and developments in education globally. As the first volume that examines early implementation efforts under SDG 4, Grading Goal Four formulates a critique along with strategies for moving forward. This book aims to provide a coherent and thoughtful framework for viewing the complex issues related to grading and reporting student learning. The primary goal of grading and reporting is recognized as communication, and grading and reporting are seen to be integral parts of the instructional process. Chapter 1 explores why grading and reporting methods should be changed, and chapter 2 considers some lessons from the past and recent research that should be applied. Several broad guidelines are presented in chapter 3. Chapter 4 explains why report cards are not enough alone. Chapters 5 and 6 review the grading methods that work best. How to grade and report on the achievement of students with special needs is the focus of chapter 7. Chapter 8 explores the major problems that should be addressed in grading and reporting, and chapter 9 considers some exemplary models of reporting systems that could be used. Complex geopolitical debate surrounds the role of intellectual property (IP) in advancing and achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Summarising and advancing this discourse, this prescient Companion is a thorough examination of how IP law interacts, influences and impacts each of the seventeen SDGs.

Many teachers of students with mild disabilities experience difficulty writing IEPs, and they lack a foundation in the regular education curriculum of academic skills and sequences associated with each grade level. This book was designed to provide this foundation. Presented in the form of scope and sequence charts that can be used as objectives for the State Frameworks (goals and benchmarks), this resource assists in preparing IEPs, including the new process of identification of children with disabilities through their responses to intervention (RTI). An additional focus is on the impact of federal laws (IDEA and NCLB) on the curriculum and assessment in schools today. The book has been reorganized into ten chapters, including: historical perspectives; early childhood special education curricula; oral expression curricula; reading and listening curricula; written expression curricula; mathematics curricula; educational technology curricula K-12; social and self competence curricula; science curricula; and evaluation reports/case studies (Appendix). The scope and sequence charts were modified to include current national education standards and benchmarks and the skills in each of the academic areas that require annual state assessment. These charts will assist teachers in modifying the general education curriculum for students with mild disabilities and to write complete Individual Education Programs, using age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate teaching and assessment materials. Chapter summaries, included for review purposes, also serve as selective and motivational reading.
