This book makes general considerations regarding global changes and contemporary economic issues in Asian countries in real terms. It offers a collection of original conference papers from the annual international conferences on “Contemporary economic issues in Asian countries” (CEIAC Conference) commenced in 2022 in collaboration with CIFOR-ICRAF, Sungkyunkwan University (Korea), and Tamkang University (Taiwan). The theme of the CEIAC Conference 2022 deals with broad aspects of the contemporary economic issues in Asian countries. It covers topics such as economics and business (economic theory, national and international income distribution, macroeconomic policies, sectors of economy, productivity developments, financial market, business governance, bank financing, etc.), green economy and sustainable development (developing process, development policy, public policy, sustainable growth, green growth, etc.), and international trade and investment (international trade theory, free trade agreements, tariffs, intellectual property, international law, etc.). The UN Sustainable Development Goals provide a common global agenda for development. However, the emerging policy issues vary greatly across the world. With 32 contributors, this volume provides a timely, research-based overview for the need for policy interventions to improve the sustainability and development models of the ten selected countries in Asia and the Pacific. The volume is firmly positioned at the cusp between research, policy and practice.

This open access book asks why and how some of the developing countries have “emerged” under a set of similar global conditions, what led individual countries to choose the particular paths that led to their “emergence,” and what challenges confront them. If we are to understand the nature of major risks and uncertainties in the world, we must look squarely at the political and economic dynamics of emerging states, such as China, India, Brazil, Russia, and ASEAN countries. Their rapid economic development has changed the distribution of wealth and power in the world. Yet many of them have middle income status. To global governance issues, they tend to adopt approaches that differ from those of advanced industrialized democracies. At home, rapid economic growth and social changes put pressure on their institutions to change. This volume traces the historical trajectories of two major emerging states, China and India, and two city states, Hong Kong and Singapore. It also analyzes cross-country data to find the general patterns of economic development and sociopolitical change in relation to globalization and to the middle income trap.

Millions of people are exposed to thousands of brands daily through different means, and we may categorise some as advertisements. William M. O’Barr calls it “conditioning of the consumers.” Advertisements can be analysed from different perspectives. For instance, Philip Nelson, in his study “Advertising as Information,” analyses advertisements based on the capacity of advertisements to direct the information toward the consumers, helping them separate one brand from another. Demetrios Vakratsas and Tim Ambler, in their study “How Advertising Works: What Do We Really Know?” discussed factors like “consumer’s belief and attitudes” and “behavioral effects” leading to purchasing behavior and brand choice. Research and advertising are intertwined, and it helps to explore the horizon of advertising that helps to improve the advertising industry. The book “Advertising: Methods, Research and Practices” offers a collection of concepts and perspectives like brand identity, buying habits, online advertising, digital gaming, political advertising, contemporary Indian advertising, new age advertising, the impact of advertising on food habits and consumption preferences, AI intervention in advertising, unethical advertising practices, chocolate advertising, marketing of toys, Digital marketing and advertising. The chapters also include metaphorical language in advertising, advertising appeals, e-sport marketing, sustainable advertising, celebrity and advertising, subliminal advertising, MSME and advertising, women in advertising, public service advertising, advertisement for positive behavior change, advertisements on menstrual health and hygiene and many more. Collectively, the chapters would help in understanding the different perspectives of advertising as practice as well as the dimensions of research requirements.

This compilation helps understand the basic forces that are now determining the performance and prospects of emerging market economies (EMEs) around the world. In the past few years, there has been a sharp rise in private capital flows to well performing developing countries, commonly referred to as EMEs. With a drop in net transfers from official sources, the private capital flows in these countries now dwarf official flows. Growth and Development in Emerging Market Economies: International Private Capital Flows, Financial Markets and Globalization encapsulates in one volume the understanding of the inter-related topics of global imbalances, finance, investment, trade, and infrastructure.
