Old-time logging in the Pacific Northwest was a "wildly wonderful if tragically heedless era"; there are those who still mourn its passing.

"It is our intention to preserve, in book form and primarily pictorially, the memory of the memorable people, places, events, etc. in this central area of Vilas County, ... with the emphasis on the villages of Starlake and Sayner, which would, due to proximity, include the township of Farmington. Farmington was renamed St. Germain in 1931...
