Since 1926, when this narrative of the Seventh Cavalry's defeat at the hands of the followers of Sitting Bull was first offered to the public, much has been written on the subject, by numerous authors of varying ability. The story of Custer's last fight -- the story of the Little Big Horn -- and the mystery that still enshrouds Custer's fate, continue to fascinate the student of our Indian wars. It is a subject that strangely evokes the interest of each succeeding generation, despite the fact that two-thirds of a century has now elapsed since the Yellow Hair and his cohorts passed into history. Little that is new, and nothing of any moment has been discovered since 1926; and as the years pass, it becomes increasingly unlikely that anything of importance will be discovered.
