Full of stories and helpful illustrations, the Christian Belief for Everyone series has been written primarily for ordinary churchgoers, though the guides will no doubt also appeal to interested readers outside the church. In Lord and Saviour, we have the joy of encountering the enigmatic but highly attractive figure of Jesus of Nazareth. Here is someone who entirely understands what it's like to live in our glorious, chaotic, suffering world. But how may we grow in relationship with a person who is both fully human and fully divine? And how does the story of Jesus of Nazareth link up to other important stories, like God's creation of the world, the calling of the people of Israel, and humankind's age-old quest for meaning and significance?

Book Synopsis Christian Belief for Everyone: Faith and Creeds by : Alister McGrath
The Christian Belief for Everyone series comprises five guides to the basic ideas of the Christian faith. Full of stories and helpful illustrations, these guides have been written primarily for ordinary churchgoers, though they will no doubt also appeal to interested readers outside the church. The approach Alister McGrath adopts is non-denominational, very similar to the 'mere Christianity' advocated by C. S. Lewis. Indeed, the series may be seen as a guide to 'mere Christianity', focusing clearly as it does on the life of faith. We look at why Christians believe what they do; how we can best understand these ideas, and the difference they make to the way we think about ourselves and our world. The first volume, Faith and the Creeds, concentrates on the nature of faith and the history and relevance of the Creeds, in a thrilling reflection on what we really mean when we say 'I believe'. This is excellent preparation for exploring the leading themes of the Creeds in four subsequent volumes: The Living God, Lord and Saviour - Jesus of Nazareth, Spirit of the Living God and The Christian Life and Hope.

Explores the great theme of the Christian hope, and the way in which this transforms and sustains the Christian life. The fifth and final volume in this highly engaging series of study guides to the basics of Christian belief reflects on how the creeds give us a framework for Christian living, as much as for Christian believing. Full of stories and helpful illustrations, the material has been tested out on congregations to ensure that it is enjoyable, useful, and easy to read! The Christian Life and Hope follows the well-received Faith and the Creeds (February 2013), The Living God (September 2013), Lord and Saviour: Jesus of Nazareth (April 2014), and Spirit of Grace (November 2014).

Book Synopsis What Jesus Did for Me by : Yvonne John
What Jesus Did For Me is the title of my book and the very first poem I wrote. I went through a period of depression, brought on by tormenting voices in my head. At the time, most of the people around me associated the depression with Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D), as it mainly seemed to affect me during the winter months. It wasnt until I became a Born Again Christian that I discovered that the problem was actually spiritual. During the time that I suffered from depression, I lost all my confidence and self-esteem. I had no hope. I became nervous and fearful and I wanted to give up and die. The voices made me believe that I was no good, I was useless, but most of all, that I was a wicked and bad person. I got to a point where I didnt recognise myself anymore. I had always considered myself to be good person; reliable, dependable, kind, thoughtful, and caring. Suddenly, I was told I was somebody different. This became too much for me to bear. Even worse, the voices told me that God would reject me, He would never love me and He would turn me away if I went to Him. Being raised as a Catholic, I believed that God loved everyone, so I was absolutely devastated when I believed that I was not good enough to be loved by God. Eight months after becoming Born Again, the Holy Spirit would visit me during the early hours of the morning. He would minister words of peace and comfort to me. This brought healing to my pain. I now feel safe, secure, and significant. I now know that I have purpose to my life. My poems seek to edify, encourage and inspire other readers, and to let them know that Jesus not only changes lives, but He also heals brings peace, joy, hope and comfort into our lives. My book is written in a poetic style. My poems depict my journey to salvation and illustrate how I have grown and matured in Christ. As you read through my poems you will experience the sense of new hope, strength and joy that God has given me through having a relationship with Jesus Christ. Every one of my poems was Holy Spirit inspired to bring comfort and healing, but many of them also serve as words of wisdom, warning, direction and praise. They also show how God inhabits the praises of His people, and how ones praise can completely change your circumstances around. Allow the Holy Spirit to minister to you as He ministered to me as you read through the pages of What Jesus Did For Me.

In this fourth volume of the series we explore three interconnected themes: the activity of God in the world, as we experience the Holy Spirit infusing our lives with purpose and joy; the graciousness of God, who despite our constantly messing things up, loves us because God is loving; and the importance of the church as the community of faith, in which we catch a glimpse - no matter how inadequate! - of the glory of heaven. The Spirit of Grace follows the well-received Faith and the Creeds (February 2013), The Living God (September 2013) and Lord and Saviour: Jesus of Nazareth (April 2014).
