God is passionately pursuing you. There is a notion in our world that we must find God, that it is on our shoulders to search for a hidden God. If God had not or does not reveal himself, we would not even know that there is a God. He is self-revealing and on a mission to provoke a response in us. He pursues us in three fundamental ways. First, the act of creation itself is an incredible act of pursuit by God. He is the Creator-Artist, with his masterpiece in mind, and we are part of the tapestry of creation. Second, the act of inspiring a book, the Bible, to codify his message demonstrates God as divine author pursuing us through his written Word. Finally, the act of the incarnation is the crowning act of pursuit. Christ, the incarnate Son of God, is on a mission to rescue the love of his heart. It is the perfect fixing the broken, the highest becoming the lowest, the resurrected lifting the dying from the very grave. Gods pursuit of us takes place on his dance floor, his universe, his masterpiece. His pursuit unfolds throughout history on our battlefields, in our crucibles, and through our worst trials. He brings the scars of his cruciblethe crossinto our crucibles and rescues us. In responding to our pursuing God we find our greatest healing.

This is a very personal, and at times very moving account of the author's horseback journey to the Holy Land, now mostly Israel. He was himself a clergyman and therefore making a sort of pilgrimage but he writes with such passion and clarity that he brings the land to life for the reader.

In life, we can take many journeys, but nothing is like a spiritual journey of a lifetime. I was fortunate to have an opportunity to go on a pilgrimage to Israel with other ministers. We were selected as a group to go on a special trip, a trip that perhaps would impact each of us in a very unique way. We went on the journey to learn, to observe and to be strengthened in our faith. While we were there, we reflected on our ministry and spent time discerning our call and our future. We toured biblical sites that focused on the Jews, the Romans, the Arabs, and particularly on the ministry of Jesus Christ. We traveled several places like Tiberias of Galilee, Jerusalem, Nazareth, Bethlehem, and many other sites. During my time in Israel, I had some interesting moments on the pilgrimage. There were moments at certain sites I felt deeply touched and spiritual uplifted as I walked and looked around. My faith was strengthened as I rode the boat on the Sea of Galilee. I felt spiritually uplifted when I was in Caesarea Philippi. And, I felt touched the most when I was at the Garden Tomb where Jesus was buried. I must say there is something about visiting Israel that will touch your heart. My heart was touched many times and I left with an everlasting impression. If you want to experience or explore the biblical sites and learn about the ministry of Jesus Christ, I encourage you to visit and be inspired and feel the joy in the Holy Land.

In Chasing God, Serving Man, Tenney calls for a forging together of the passion for God and compassion for man. The key is for God's people to cross "the dividing line of passion and compassion" and meet Him at the junction of the cross -- the single point in time and space where passion for His presence crosses with compassion for His highest creation.

“In this delightful autobiography, Smith tells us how he became the dean of world religion experts. Along the way we meet the people who shaped him and shared his journey—a Who’s Who of 20th century spiritual America: the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., the Dalai Lama, Aldous Huxley, Timothy Leary, T.S. Eliot, Thomas Merton and Pete Seeger.... A valuable master class on faith and life.” — San Francisco Chronicle Book Review As Stephen Hawking is to science; as Peter Drucker is to economics; and as Joseph Campbell is to mythology; so Huston Smith is to religion. Tales of Wonder is the personal story of the author of the classic The World’s Religions, the man who taught a nation about the great faiths of the world, and his fascinating encounters with the people who helped shape the 20th century.
