Book Synopsis Proving the Catholic Faith is Biblical by : Dave Armstrong

If you want quick, substantive answers to the most common (and even several uncommon) claims that Catholic beliefs and practices aren’t biblical, then Proving the Catholic Faith is Biblical is the book for you. In these pages, veteran apologist Dave Armstrong carefully walks you through the key teachings of the Church, revealing how each is rooted in Scripture. He begins with several essays on tradition before moving into Ecclesiology, explaining the basis of a single Church, why priests are called “father,” and whether Church councils are more authoritative than the pope. Armstrong then justifies priestly celibacy before moving into the theology of salvation. He illuminates the Church’s teaching on predestination, what “believing” in Jesus really means, and the relationship between faith and good works. He continues by explaining purgatory and penance, the ritualism of the Holy Mass, the Rosary, the Communion of Saints, Mary as Queen of Heaven, papal infallibility, annulments, contraception, the necessity of Hell, and even the development of Church doctrine. All told, he offers here 80 powerful essays that make sense of so many Catholic beliefs and practices that puzzle non-Catholics and cradle Catholics alike. Read this book, and you’ll come to see that not only is the Catholic Faith thoroughly biblical, it is the only Christian religion in full conformity with Scripture.

Book Synopsis In Defense of the Faithful by : C. DeVolld

In Defense of the Faithful-The Scriptural Truth of Catholicism was written as an aggressive defense of the Catholic Faith. It explores the foundations and historic origins of Catholic doctrine from an evangelical, fundamentalist, and reformed Protestant point of view. It offers the teachings of the Church in common language then defends the position with scriptural quotations from throughout the Holy Bible. It then quotes the Catechism (formal teaching doctrine) of the Catholic Church offering a factual presentation of what the Church actually teaches rather than what many people think it teaches. In doing so it is critical not only of Protestantism but some aspects of Catholicism (in practice) as well. It credits and praises both groups of Christians as being believers dedicated to Jesus and the Trinity while pointing out the mutual failures of both groups. It is a thought provoking examination of Catholic doctrine, practice, theology, and ethics from a biblical viewpoint and is not afraid to point fingers at all parties involved in greater Christianity.

Book Synopsis Defending Catholicism by : James S. Anderson

Hosts of helpful Catholic apologetic books currently exist; however, a concise treatment that specifically targets all the major Protestant objections in an easily accessible manner is hard to find. Anderson's fourth volume offers such. It provides readers with salient counterpoints for each objection, and most often from the very source Protestants use to deny important aspects of the faith: the Bible. Thus, without even realizing it, Protestants implicitly accept the Catholic faith as they accept the very texts the faith provided them. Important issues such as these are pointed out throughout the book. It is a must-read for Catholics seeking to address Protestant questions, and for Protestants desiring to understand why Catholicism claims to be biblical through and through. This work cogently articulates how Catholicism is biblical, and just how often Protestant positions are untenable.

Book Synopsis More Biblical Evidence for Catholicism by : Dave Armstrong

My purpose is to accumulate biblical arguments in support of distinctively Catholic doctrinal positions, with Protestant readers particularly in mind. I also touch upon the closely related subjects of sola Scriptura (the Protestant notion of Scripture Alone), the Catholic Church's high regard for Holy Scripture, and critiques from our separated Christian brethren with regard to matters of ecclesiology (Church) and Tradition. Additionally, a fair degree of emphasis has been devoted to certain common and erroneous charges against the Catholic Church and to dialogue (back-and-forth discussion), so that readers can have a sense of interaction with opponents of various Catholic doctrines, and how they might be answered from Scripture, history, and reason. Almost all of these chapters came about as a result of challenges and dialogues undertaken via e-mail and Internet lists and bulletin boards, from mid-1996 through to mid-2000.

Book Synopsis Dear Brother by : Brian Roberts

"Dear Brother" is a fresh compilation of Catholic Apologetics targeted toward non-Catholic Christians. However, the book was especially written for Catholics who have found themselves in RCIA programs against the wishes of Protestant friends and family. It contains an exhaustive biblical defense of essential Catholic doctrines, a glimpse of the general councils in Church history, and the author's own conversion story. It is difficult to find so much material packed into one easy to read volume. "Dear Brother" manages this in a way that is both personal and compelling. A real page turner for anyone interested in Catholicism! FEATURES: - the author's personal testimony - a summary of each ecumenical council - a list of the popes - over twenty articles on saints - suggested reading and resource lists - quotes from the early Church - HUNDREDS of Scriptural references

Book Synopsis The One-minute Apologist by : Dave Armstrong

If you're looking for solid Catholic answers to common Protestant challenges, but don't have lots of time, then reach for The One-Minute Apologist. Here renowned Catholic apologist Dave Armstrong (author of A Biblical Defense of Catholicism and The Catholic Verses) has assembled over sixty of the claims and arguments that Protestants (of all stripes) most frequently level against the Church. Drawing on a lifetime of study in Scripture, history, and the works of Catholic and Protestant theologians he delivers the essential Catholic replies to each claim, packaged for you in a compact and uniquely usable format. And since he's a convert from Evangelicalism, Armstrong presents these anti-Catholic claims with an insider's accuracy using the special terms, references, and follow-up arguments that you're mostly likely to hear in real-world encounters and responds to them in a way Protestants can understand and appreciate. The One-Minute Apologist is concise, but never superficial. It cites or quotes more than a thousand Scripture verses, along with the words of scores of saints and scholars including many respected Protestant sources. Packing centuries of learning and wisdom into just a few tightly structured pages, The One-Minute Apologist decisively refutes common Protestant claims. More accessible than thick theological tomes, more substantial than tracts, and better organized than other "quick answer" books, The One-Minute Apologist is the one source you'll find yourself turning to whenever you have the need to defend the Catholic Faith quickly, credibly, and well.
