An attempt at a final summary of much of my work in anthropology has been divided into two separate volumes, Status Inequality: The Self in Culture, 1990, published by Sage Publications and this present volume, Social Cohesion and Alienation: Minorities in the United States and Japan. Many of the themes touched upon in both volumes have appeared in a series of writings that stretch through a period starting in the early sixties through the late eighties. Some of these efforts resulted in books; others appeared separately as invited contributions to symposia, as special issues of journals, or as parts of edited volumes.

This timely and ground-breaking study of the political behavior of three generations of Italian-Americans deals with a fundamental issue in American society: Does the political system tend to exclude certain groups from sharing political power?

Denounces the deteriorating situation of land ownership in 2004 and 2006 in a number of communes due to slack enforcement of the 2001 Land Law. Highlights the resulting devastation of the social fabric of communities and destruction of indigenous culture in the provinces Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri in north-eastern Cambodia. Includes two DVDs: "Crisis" ( 25 min.) showing the worsening living conditions of indigenous people affected by illegally sold land; "Forest Mountain Voices: FMV 2006" (40 min.) presenting scenes from everyday life, including women's work, a rice ceremony, singing and dancing, handicraft production, etc.
